Hulu has dropped a new trailer for Season Four of Handmaid's Tale and it looks, quite frankly, outrageous.

It seems like things have really ramped up in this post-apocalyptic world and Elizabeth Moss' character is certainly taking matters into her own hands.

The full storyline of Atwood's original book - which follows the creation of a dystopian society where fertile women, dubbed 'handmaids', are forced into a slave trade to provide children - played out in the very first season.

Another class of women, Aunts, wear brown and they train, oversee and discipline the Handmaids as well as organise 'particicutions', which is a nice way of saying public executions.

The majority of the main cast is expected to return for the fourth instalment, but with fans having no idea which way the action will go next, there's a lot of speculation riding on Season 4.

The trailer makes us believe that some type of uprising is on the cards and June Osborne/Offred (Moss) isn't bowing down to the system anymore. We see her fish a gun out from under the bed and she doesn't look afraid to use it.

Showrunner Bruce Miller said they have been planning something that will blow everyone away.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "You don't want to be setting up Season 4 in Season 3. Audiences smell that coming.

"So what I do is completely screw myself at the end of the season. Then you think, 'Oh, there's a whole bunch of smart writers who will come in next season and solve that problem.'"

The programme has been shooting the fourth season mainly in Toronto, Canada.

During the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, The Handmaid's Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield said: "We'll start with principal photography 2nd March, and we'll be on in the fall."

Judging by this post on the City of Toronto website, film production was meant to kick off on March 2 (just like Littlefield said) and it will wrap on August 7. It's hard to know how much the coronavirus pandemic has affected that timeline.

A total of 10 episodes are expected to be filmed by the company Gilead 4 Productions Inc.

To date, the popular series has been filmed almost exclusively in Ontario, in locations like Hamilton, Oshawa and Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto.

Sadly, no official date has been announced for The Handmaid's Tale season four, but this trailer will certainly tide us over.
