Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, aka Ant and Dec, were left slightly embarrassed as they had to apologise on behalf of one of their guests after they made a huge mistake while live on air.

The Saturday Night Takeaway hosts are a couple of Britain's most beloved TV personalities, and were presenting their final episode of the show last night after shockingly announcing last year that they were cancelling their ITV show after 20 years on the air.

But this latest incident further proves that the show is broadcast live. Take a look:

Last night (13 April), their final ever instalment aired and it didn't go without any hitches, with the hosts having to apologise for something that one of their guests said.

The cringe-worthy moment happened during an intense segment of the show called Ring My Bell.

A screen showed the view of three doorbells belonging to audience members in the live studio, which belonged to a woman named Caroline from Gateshead, a man named Craig from Nottingham and a woman named Debo from Stevenage.

Those watching at home were asked to run to the doors and ring the doorbell while holding an item from their fridge to win themselves and the homeowner £500 each.

In the first round, a man named Tony won by getting to Debo's house first, winning the cash prize as he finished before a man named Ben reached Craig's house, and a woman named Rebecca made it to Caroline's house.

During the second round, the contestants were told to get a number of items and come back, ringing the bell with the items to win.

Ben made it back first with all that was required, but forgot to ring the bell, with the hosts urging him: “Ring the bell. Ring the bell. Ring the bell!”

Ben in Nottingham then audibly shouted: "Oh, s**t!" before ringing the bell swiftly.

Ant and Dec then covered their embarrassment with a swift apology, saying: “Well done… Apologies for the language there, Nottingham!”

As it was the final episode of the show, Ant and Dec told all contestants that they had won a huge prize, which was followed by celebrations.

Many viewers were emotional during the episode, as several found it hard to cope with the face that the show was coming to a close.

Ant and Dec shared the news that their 20th season of the show would be their last, through a video message posted on Instagram last year.

They announced: “We love making Saturday Night Takeaway, but reaching the milestone of 20 series seemed like the perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath…

“We still have a momentous 20th series to look forward to first so we will do our best to go out (for now) with a bang in 2024.”

Ant also said: “Next year in 2024 it will be the 20th series of Saturday Night Takeaway and we’ve got some very special look-backs planned, as well as some very exciting new items."

Dec further explained: “And we’ve also decided that our 20th series next year will be our last one for a little while. The show takes up such a lot of our year, we just feel we need a little bit of a breather, and that the show is going to take a little bit of a rest.”
