Fans expose Big Brother editing blunder then label its producers 'so embarrassing'

Big Brother fans have spotted a major error in the editing of the latest episode of the series to stream on ITVX on Wednesday – and not everyone is happy about it.

One fan called Mark even took to X to publicly chastise the show’s producers by demanding: “Give us the REAL audio you cowards!” Another fan dubbed the editing inconsistency as ‘so embarrassing.’

The voice of Big Brother has been a major feature of the show since its very beginning in July 2000 – with the unforgettable Teesside accent delivered by the much-loved narrator Marcus Bentley on and off for 26 years.

However, when Big Brother must intervene, for example to call contestants to the diary room, whichever producers are behind the scenes are called to step in.

What happened between Johanne and Yasmin?

And this is exactly what happened on Wednesday when firebrand LA-native Johanne, 44, became embroiled in a row with Mancunian Yasmin, 29, over how drinks were being shared (or not) by the housemates.

When Yasmin complained Johanne was not sharing drinks fairly, the American who now lives in Salford lashed out, telling Yasmin she was ‘coming at her with energy’ and to ‘bring it down.’

Refusing to back down, Yasmin stuck to her guns, maintaining that Johanne was ‘not fair’ which only incensed Johanne more. The argument descended into a full-on slanging match until the moment arrived that fans have now poked holes through – a polished Big Brother voice interrupting to call Johanne to the diary room.

While relying on whoever is working at the time to step in and issue orders to the housemates when needed, in the history of the show Big Brother has almost always presented a unified voice, to maintain the brand and authority of the show.

What editing flaw did Big Brother fans spot?

Mark’s post on X, which included a cut of the episode preview of what seemed to be the unedited version with the much more urgent voice of what sounded like a completely different male.

Big Brother fans debated which is better, the “real” producer authentically intervening on the spot, or the “universal” voice of the narrator edited into the scene for the streaming version of the show.

Super TV started the debate by sharing Mark’s original post with the comment: “I’ve never even been against the solo Big Brother voice, but now that we heard this today… it just… sounds so much better. I don’t even know what it is, can’t explain it”

Mark then agreed in the thread, “Personally I can't stand the voice they settled on. He sounds almost jolly half the time. Having a collective of voices feels much more like a bunch of cold, faceless scientists observing their experiment, which for me works much better for the concept & adds tension”

Albert Square: Afterdark Podcast backed them up, “I knew they’d just forgotten to edit it for the preview. I’ve never been a fan of it. It just adds that extra level of post production to the whole thing that BB doesn’t need imo.”

Dvdbts said, “It just sounds more genuine and less robotic. I know they're leaning into a more Orwellian feel, but we know it's not live and can feel it.”

Ben King said, “I don't understand this at all. Why they picked him to put on that voice that way, why they've kept it so long... I don't think anybody likes it?”

Rogan was scathing in his view of the editors, “Knew it. They post 1:40 sneak peak a day. And they can’t even edit it right. This is so embarrassing.”

Is the Big Brother house full of arguments?

The show has faced accusations it is ‘chaotic’ after airing its second row after only four episodes. In another awkward moment Johanne walked in on Muslim housemate Omar praying in a storage room.

Johanne was branded ‘disrespectful’ by fans after she continued to rummage around the room, rather than simply leaving him to commune in peace.

A scene showing housemate Rochelle explaining to quadruple amputee Charlotte that she was initially ‘freaked out’ and fearful of her lack of limbs also left housemates enraged and viewers furious.

Housemates Millie, Pauline and Rochelle are facing eviction after being nominated by the secret mole but each failing to gain a lifeline by correctly identifying the mole.

They will find out on Friday after the result of the public vote which of them is due to be evicted.
