Bridgerton is well known for its saucy intimate scenes that make Wuthering Heights look PG in comparisons, but the TV show has been slammed online for how they handled one of these in the new season.
The Netflix series is one of the most successful in the history of the streamer, with its penchant for saucy drama making headlines worldwide.
Now on its fourth season you’d think that the period TV series would be getting better at handling them, but an actor has spoken out about how she discovered she was filming one in the new season.
Ruth Gemmell plays Violet Bridgerton and has been in all four seasons of the show, previously stating in interviews that she planned to never do any sex scenes saying that her ‘ass was not coming out for anyone’.

Spoilers below for Bridgerton season four.
In season four of the show Violet Bridgerton strikes up a romance for the first time since her husband Edmund died, leading to a sex scene with Lord Marcus Anderson who is played by Daniel Francis.
Ruth Gemmell has spoken however about her experience of finding out about this intimate scene she filmed and said she only discovered it would be happening during her costume fitting.
This would have taken place prior to scripts being sent out but it is generally considered good practice to let actors know as early as possible if they will be expected to act in intimate scenes.

Speaking to Cine Tele Revue, a Belgium TV magazine, Gemmell said: “I was a little bit shocked. I was in a costume fitting and I realised that I was being fitted for something I had no idea was going to happen.
“I went home, cried. Thankfully we tackled this one in a slightly different way to [her younger co-stars on the show’s sex scenes]. I was a bit shocked.”
She went on to praise the representation of the scene, saying that as a 58-year-old actor it was ‘important’, adding: “It is important. We don’t die after a certain age. It’s quite nice to represent that.”
Despite her positive takeaways from the scene however fans online have been raging at the way that she found out about the steamy scene.

One viral tweet said: “‘I went home and cried’ guys this isn't normal.”
Another said: “I don’t think we should normalize it. like— this, just like many other things, is yet another demonstration of the lack of basic human consideration when it comes to actors.
“It’s not less important than working hard to make money, if anything, IT SHOULD COME FIRST.”
A third fan responded saying: “This is exactly why intimacy coordinators and proper communication are mandatory. Finding out during a fitting is wild.”
