Gogglebox star Stephen Webb lifted the lid on last year's decision to call time on being in the show after 10 years on our TV screens.

We are 21 series deep into the show and at this point Craig Cash doing his intro where he was 'we watched some great telly' is pretty much seared into my brain forever.

Plenty of Gogglebox stars have come and gone over the years, and when Stephen Webb announced that he would be leaving the show that left only one family from the original cast still on.

The last of the old guard are the Siddiqui family, nobody else you'll see on Gogglebox was there from the very beginning any longer.

Throughout his years on the sofa Stephen was first joined by former partner Christopher Steed before his mum Pat sat with him in 2017.

Two years later and Daniel Lustig joined the show, but then last year the show released a statement saying the pair would be leaving.

They said: "After a brilliant and illustrious time on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have decided that now is the right time to explore life beyond the sofa and leave the show.

"As one of the original Goggleboxers, Stephen has entertained the nation with his hilarious quips since the show first started in 2013, sharing his opinions on the best and biggest TV events of the last ten years.

"We would like to thank him and Daniel for being utterly brilliant contributors to the show, and we wish them well with their future projects."

Since then Stephen has explained why he wanted to call it quits on Gogglebox.

Speaking to the Mirror, the Gogglebox star explained the main reason why he decided it was time to pack it in.

It turns out that he was getting bored of his own jokes and had realised that he was making the same ones over and over again.

He said: "I thought, ‘I just can’t go back, I’m sick of it'. I got to the 10th anniversary of Gogglebox. I started feeling like Ken Barlow... there from day one.

"I was churning out the same old s**t. I’d say to the guys, ‘sorry, you’ll have heard this 10 times before...’ I don’t know why they’ve not cottoned on.

"When I shoved the doughnut in my mouth and swallowed... I must have done that four times. It made it on every time."

During the time he was on the show Stephen was making about £1,500 a month, being on Gogglebox is a pretty decent gig but it's not going to pay all of your bills.
