All the stars who quit I’m A Celebrity on ‘medical grounds’ as Grace Dent leaves jungle

Food critic Grace Dent quit I'm a Celeb after entering the Australian jungle just over a week ago.

After Grace Dent's unexpected exit from I'm a Celeb this week, we've cast our minds back to all the other celebs who've had to leave the jungle early.

A total of ten contestants have had to quit the show on ‘medical grounds’.

Up until today, Dent was the latest celeb forced to head back to the UK for health reasons on Monday (27 November).

After entering the Australian jungle just over a week ago, ITV confirmed that the 50-year-old had left the camp.

A spokesperson told LADbible: "Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds.

"She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike.”

And on Wednesday (29 November) we learnt that Jamie Lynn Spears has quit I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

A show spokesperson said: "Jamie Lynn Spears has left I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! on medical grounds. She's been a fantastic campmate who has triumphed at trials and bonded well with her fellow celebrities."

Also today, Nella Rose was forced to leave camp after being rushed to see the jungle medics.

However, she has now joined up again with her campmates.

Now, there are eight others who have left the show on medical grounds, let's see how many you can remember.

Olivia Attwood (2022)

Fans who watched last year's show will remember when Olivia Attwood left I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! after just 24 hours.

In a statement, a spokesman for the show said: "As a precautionary measure Olivia needed to leave the jungle to undergo some medical checks.

"Unfortunately, the medical team has advised it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be further investigation."

Attwood later revealed she'd had to withdraw after a routine medical test showed her blood pressure and potassium levels were low, making it impossible to continue for insurance reasons.

Richard Madeley (2021)

The TV presenter had to leave the camp at Gwrych Castle, Wales due to possible dehydration.

On Good Morning Britain after his exit, Madeley said: “I think what happened to me was I got dehydrated. I think that’s all it was. But dehydration, if anyone’s ever suffered from it, is actually quite disturbing.

“Basically, I think I’d been up for about 20 hours the day before, and the day before that we were having very long days and sleeping quite late, and we don’t have watches in there but I don’t think I got to bed until about 4, 4.30 in the morning.

“I knew I was feeling thirsty and I’m quite bad at remembering to drink actually, drink water, and as I actually snuggled into my sleeping bag, it was freezing, I thought, ‘Ah, I haven’t had a big drink in a while, I’ll do it when I wake up’."

Lady Colin Campbell (2015)

The divisive Lady C, 74, who crossed swords with Tony Hadley and Duncan Bannatyne, quit just days before the finale.

This was again due to 'medical grounds'.

Her son Dima said she was 'fine' the next day.

Brian Conley (2012)

The EastEnders star left the show after just nine days.

He explained to Daybreak that a legally binding condition of being on the show was that he had to take his antidepressants.

He said: “I started feeling really bad, and very shortly after that, I did have to leave.

"I found out I was malnourished and I was suffering from exhaustion, that’s what the doctor said.

“I felt bad because it was out of my control, it was their decision… I couldn’t lie to them [about not taking the antidepressants].”

Freddie Starr (2011)

The late comedian - who passed away in 2019 - quit the competition after suffering an allergic reaction to something he'd eaten.

He reportedly collapsed in camp and was taken away by ambulance.

Although Starr was feeling OK the day after, bosses didn't want to risk returning him to camp.

Camilla Dallerup (2009)

Strictly's Camilla Dallerup, 47, lasted four days in the I’m A Celeb jungle in 2009.

She said: "I’ve decided to leave the camp. I’ve had a chat with the medics and I’ve taken the decision because if I stayed any longer I could risk my health.

"I feel really weak like I could faint any time. I don’t have any reserve. I’m a small person and I don’t have any reserve to draw on and today when I woke up it got worse every day. I just felt this was the worse I’ve ever felt.

"I was so weak I could hardly walk down to the river and back. It feels like the right decision because my body can’t take it. I just have to listen to my body."

Elaine Lordan (2005)

ITV

The EastEnders actor collapsed twice in 24 hours in the 2005 camp.

She was taken on a stretcher by air ambulance to a hospital five miles away, and it was revealed she was suffering from dehydration.

Fellow campmate and co-star Sid Owen said: "I'm sorry but you don't see situations like that every day.

"She started shaking, then fell back and went really stiff. It was so frightening. It was really scary."

ITV said 'detailed investigations carried out by separate doctors over the last two days have shown her to be in good health'.

Kimberley Davies (2005)

Ex-Neighbours star Kimberley Davies was forced to quit the show after 11 days for fracturing a rib during a helicopter jump for one of the Bushtucker trials.

If you've made it this far and are wondering if celebs get full pay when they leave early, it seems that according to the Mirror, contestants must stay in the jungle for at least 72-hours to be given their fee in full and if someone leaves before that point then their pay cheque will be cut.

With Dent lasting a week in the jungle, it appears that she would be entitled to the full fee - but the rule was seen in action back in 2014 when The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins quit the show early after only three days in the jungle.

Collins was rumoured to have been offered £100,000 for her stint in the jungle, but a representative for the star later revealed that she wasn’t given her full fee.

At the time, her rep confirmed: "I can confirm that the £4,800 fee was the full and final fee that Gemma received for her participation in last year's I'm A Celebrity.

“The show is three weeks long and Gemma was in Australia for five days, therefore she will receive a percentage based on that.”

The star opted to donate the money in full to Save The Children.
