A cult leader was found mummified after she had turned blue in what might be one of the craziest documentaries ever.
Back in November 2023, HBO released Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God, and viewers were left speechless after the three episodes of the docuseries.
It follows Amy Carlson, a woman from Kansas, US, and her journey to becoming the leader of 'Love Has Won'.

Described as a cult by media outlets and former members, the group believed in several outlandish things, such as conspiracy theories and that Carlson herself was the reincarnation of an all-powerful being.
By April 2021, Carlson's corpse was found by authorities in a sleeping bag in Creston, Colorado, where 12 to 20 of the cult's core members also lived.

Who was Amy Carlson, the 'Mother God'?
Amy Carlson was born on 30 November 1975 in McPherson, Kansas, and grew up between that state and Oklahoma, before moving to Texas.
By the mid-2000s, she was a mother of three and was a manager at McDonald's, though it was then that Carlson started to read up on the 'New Age' religion, posting often on forums.

This is where she met Amerith WhiteEagle, and after he convinced her she was ethereal, Carlson started to believe it and even heard voices.
In 2007, she left her job, her third husband, and her children to join WhiteEagle in Colorado to become Mother and Father God for the cult that would come to be known as Love Has Won.
What did the cult believe and promise followers?

Carlson claimed to be a spiritual saviour who built the cult through several online manifestos and live-streaming sessions.

Here, she convinced followers that her cult was guided by beings known as 'Galactics' that included the likes of dead celebrities Steve Irwin, Robin Williams, Carrie Fisher and the not-dead Donald Trump.
The movement grew from 2014 onwards, with the cult being a mix of 'New Age spirituality, conspiracy theories, and mainstream religions'.
Followers believed that Carlson could heal cancer with 'the power of love' when she was alive, as she claimed that alcohol and drugs were her 'medicine'.
The 'Mother God' also drank colloidal silver, an alternative medicine considered to be unsafe and ineffective.
What happened to Amy Carlson’s body?

Despite telling people she had reincarnated as Jesus Christ and Joan of Arc, among other popular figures, Carlson's health started to deteriorate.
This wasn't just due to consuming silver, but also because she only consumed alcohol near the end, with the diet turning her face blue. But followers believed that her health started to decline as she was taking on the world's negative energy.
They claimed that she would 'ascend' as a result, with some believing that she would evacuate by UFO and that this would also mean salvation for humanity.
Despite this, Carlson died at the age of 45. Her body, which was wrapped in a sleeping bag, fairy lights and covered in glitter, would be found by authorities almost two weeks after her death, in a Colorado home.
Carlson's followers still believed she had gone to a 'fifth dimension' following her death, though, resulting in what looked like a shrine in the sleeping bag.
Why did authorities step in and how did it all end?

In the documentary, the cult explained that they travelled to Ashland, Oregon, where Carlson lost all motor control in her final days.
After hearing a 'calling', they moved her body back to the group mission's home before Lamboy, the owner of the property, reported the body to the Sagauche County police department.
It is said that the body had travelled across five states in the back of an SUV.
Authorities performed an autopsy, revealing that the cause of death was organ failure as a result of alcohol abuse, anorexia and colloidal silver dosing.
Carlson lost over 50 pounds before her death, while experts at the National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health explained that colloidal silver can cause issues in the kidneys, liver and nervous system.
Argyria was then a side-effect of this, causing her face to turn blue. It also found that Carlson did not find any evidence of cancer.
