Tony Parsons was killed by Alexander ‘Sandy’ McKellar in 2017, with his family being prevented the justice of finding his body until three years later.
Parsons was killed by McKellar whilst on a charity cycle, with McKellar’s fiancé reporting him to the police after he admitted to the murder.
McKellar’s fiancé, Dr Caroline Muirhead, is the focus of a brand-new Netflix documentary Should I Marry a Murderer? which covers Muirhead secretly recording her fiancé to try and elicit a confession after he admitted to her that he killed Parsons.
McKellar killed Parsons drunk driving on the 29 September 2017, with the 63-year-old being hit by the driver whilst undertaking a 104-mile charity bike ride from Fort William to Tillicoultry.

With Muirhead’s help police found his body which was buried in a shallow grave by McKellar and his brother, and the pair were jailed for 12 and five years respectively in 2023.
Parsons’ family got a six-figure payout over the ‘appalling’ killing
Parsons was left to die after being struck by McKellar whilst speeding and drunk, with him and his brother later returning to take his body, bike, and personal possessions and hide them.
In January of 2025 it was announced that solicitors for his family were able to come to a settlement with the insurers of McKellar’s car.

The civil case was just a day before going to trial, with the settlement’s exact details not being publicly disclosed outside of the fact that it was in the six-figure region.
Gordon Dalyell, a partner at Digby Brown Solicitors, said (per BBC): “The manner of Tony's death and what happened subsequently was appalling and the pain of his loss understandably continues to cause huge distress to his loved ones.
"While compensation does not, in any way, heal the pain, it does help protect the futures of his relatives.
"I commend the strength of the Parsons family throughout this whole period as they try to move on with their lives." Tony’s widow, Margaret Parsons, said the family would ‘never forgive’ the McKellar brothers, stating that she is serving a ‘life sentence’ of grief.
An update has been given on Caroline Muirhead after the Netflix doc renews interest in Parsons’ death
The Parsons family do not speak in the documentary, with the focus near-entirely being on Dr Muirhead’s brave decision to report her fiancé and spy on him to gain information for his eventual prosecution.
Dr Muirhead spoke to Netflix’s Tudum about where she is now after her fiancé was convicted with her help in 2023.

She told Tudum: “Making the documentary meant revisiting the darkest of times, and none of that was easy.
“But it has also been a cathartic experience. For the first time in several years, I now have hope for the future and the freedom to begin the next chapter of my life.”
Caroline moved to the Scottish coastline recently, and is sober. She previously struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, as shown in the documentary. She has, however, installed security cameras fearing the McKellar brothers may come after her when they are eventually released from prison.
Should I Marry a Murderer? is available to stream on Netflix now.
