Nicholas Hoult has spoken about one of his regrets from filming Skins after revealing that he found filming sex scenes for the show at 17 ‘weird’.
The actor has gone on, like many of the Skins cast, to carve out a very successful career off the back of the hit UK show.
Hoult now stars in Superman, coming out this week in the UK, appearing as Lex Luthor after having lost out on the role of Clark Kent to David Corenswet.
The show has spawned a number of wildly successful alumni, ranging from Jack O’Connell to Daniel Kaluuya to Kaya Scodelario to Dev Patel.

Speaking to stars of the TV show, however, the experiences on the actual set of the series have been mixed at best, even though nearly all of them credit their careers to Skins.

The 2007 E4 show was a trailblazer for its time, following groups of teenage Brits partying, drinking, doing drugs, and sleeping with one another.
This was before many shows were willing to show this reality of teenage life – with the show also standing out for its willingness to put casting calls open to working-class actors who did not go to acting school.
Kaya Scodelario, who played Hoult’s character Tony’s sister Effy, spoke out about the lack of safety on set when she became a lead in the later season and began filming sex scenes.

She criticised the lack of safeguarding on set and pointed to the fact that they were paid the bare minimum, though she stated she was grateful and that ‘safeguarding really wasn’t a thing back then’.

Hoult was similarly mixed in his criticism, acknowledging that the show was of its time.
Speaking to The Metro, Hoult admitted that he wishes that intimacy coordinators had been around earlier so that the show could have had one.
He said: “Oh yeah, I’ve been working with intimacy coordinators now for the past two or three productions I’ve been on and it’s a brilliant addition to the crew.

“It’s someone who can really help the storytelling through those intimate scenes and be attentive to it. So it’s been a big aid."
In a feature with GQ, he also stated that filming sex scenes for the show at just 17 years old was ‘weird’.

He said: “Back then you’re a kid doing a job, and I’d done it for a long time at that point, but it’s also a weird position to be put in."
He went on to acknowledge that they weren’t ‘bad experiences or anything’.
Hoult clarified that his mentality at that time was simply to "get this done as quickly as possible so I can be comfortable again and continue with the aspects of acting that I enjoy."
