Britain's Got Talent has once again returned to our Saturday night screens, with the show looking to find some of the country's most gifted people.

Hosted by beloved duo Ant and Dec, with celebrity judges including Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli, guest judge KSI and the ever-present Simon Cowell, the ITV show has presented us with plenty of memorable moments over the years.

Who could forget the look on Simon's face when Susan Boyle belted out her opera or perhaps when we all witnessed the pinnacle of dance through Stavros Flatley?

Cowell, who was once again donning his now iconic red glasses on Saturday night (22 March), clearly became emotional at a new group's audition, which led to him breaking a long-standing BGT rule.

Electric Umbrella, an inclusive musical group from Watford, produced a performance that Elton John would have been proud of with their original hit 'Acceptance'.

The group, which includes people aged from six to 60, took to the mics to empower ‘learning disabled and neurodivergent people through creativity and connection’.

And after a magical performance which left the whole of the audience giving a standing ovation, the judges also took to their feet to applaud their efforts.

Cowell said: "I feel a wave of goodness here. Everything about this was good. It was just spectacular. Look, the only downside to this is, I don’t have any Golden Buzzers left."

The audience was - understandably - calling for one of the other judges to step up and use their golden buzzers, which guarantees the act a spot in the live shows.

However, the music mogul had already used his golden buzzer with Scottish singer Vinnie McKee, who impressed him with an operatic version of The Proclaimers' classic hit 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)'.

But the 65-year-old, who for many is the face of the show, decided that he would take matters into his own hands after being 'blown away' by Electric Umbrella's performance.

So, he went ahead and smashed the buzzer anyway, leaving the other judges in a slight state of shock, but the audience certainly loved it as the golden confetti rained down on the group

Cowell then joined them on stage and gave all of them hugs, with the Watford-based band now given plenty of time to prepare their next performance at the live shows later this year.

BGT viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on the incredible moment.

One X user wrote: "Wow 'Electric Umbrella' on @BGT, brought a tear to my eye. What an act and what the shows all about."

Another added: "They were brilliant and deserved the gold. Such a lovely group."

While a third commented: "An extra golden buzzer for electric umbrella is just so rightly deserved!!"
