Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has spoken out about the possibility of a second season of Tom Hardy show Taboo nine years after the cult classic released.

Knight spoke about the possibility of the show returning in a Reddit AMA promoting Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

The upcoming Netflix film will see Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby, with Knight having returned to write the conclusion to the story of the Shelby family.

Peaky Blinders though is not the only thing Knight is known for, having also written the fan favourite SAS: Rogue Heroes as well as the 2017 series Taboo.

The show starred Tom Hardy, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, Stephen Graham, and Jonathan Pryce, and is widely considered to be one of the most underrated BBC series of the last decade.

Fans have clamoured for a second season for years, and now Knight has clarified that him and Tom Hardy are working on it.

When asked if we will ever see Hardy return on Reddit, he said: “I get asked about Taboo very often. Journalists will finish an interview and switch of the recorder then say 'what's happening with Taboo?'

“Well Tom and I have an idea we both like. Just waiting for us both to be free to do it. It seems Delaney won't leave us alone.”

Fans had previously theorised that a second season might be in the works after a vague post from Tom Hardy on his Instagram seemed to reference the show, something he later confirmed when he said a second season was ‘being written’ in an exclusive interview with LADbible.

Speaking in an interview with the Radio Times earlier this year the writer said that they ‘are both keen to continue, and there are lots of people who want us to continue in that direction’.

He added: “It’s been a question of schedules and deciding where it goes next.”

Hardy starred in the show as Delaney, a tormented man returning to England after ten years in Africa following the death of his father.

Speaking to The Wrap he said of the role: “Delaney is probably one of the most tortured characters I’ve played because for me, he’s connected to everyone in the piece in a very personal way.

“It wasn’t just about playing James Delaney but also about really immersing myself in everyone else.

“As an actor, I felt tortured because everyone in the piece is really important to me.

“With TV, you get about eight to ten hours of footage. It’s fast-paced and relentless.

“That’s why its attractive. I think TV is such a good place to push the boat out a bit more.”
