A Stranger Things star has left fans seriously worried after comparing his character and series villain Vecna to Harry Potter.
After three years of waiting, Stranger Things fans were finally able to watch the first four episodes from the final season earlier this week – and viewers have been left with plenty to think about while they wait for Volume 2 to drop on Boxing Day.
A key twist was revealed during the opening scene of S5E01, when a CGI-assisted flashback revealed that Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is very much linked to Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

Will also discovers that he has the power to control Demogorgons during the S5E04, a power which very much mirrors Vecna's.

So what does this mean for the characters and their ultimate fate?
Well, this is where the Harry Potter comparison comes into play.
Explaining that Will's connection to Vecna will become more apparent to Vecna in the second volume of season five, Noah Schnapp revealed the following to Deadline: "For Will, we start to learn the parallels between Will and Vecna, and it almost felt very Harry Potter to me that I had to go back and re-watch the movies, because the Harry Potter-Voldemort relationship felt very close to Will and Vecna.

"So just kind of exploring those parallels and what that means."
For those of you who are unaware or have simply forgotten the events of JK Rowling's wizarding franchise, Harry Potter's fate becomes entwined with Voldemort's when a prophecy reveals the boy will be the one to eventually defeat the Dark Lord and his army.

Keen to wipe out a potential threat, Voldemort attempts to kill a newborn Harry and accidentally transports a piece of his soul into the infant when his killing curse fails. This means that not only are Harry and Voldemort linked to one another, but Harry must also die in order for Voldemort himself to die.
Given Schnapp's comments and the fact that showrunner Ross Duffer has since confirmed that Will's powers come from Vecna in an interview with Variety, fans are now concerned about what this could mean for Will's ultimate fate.

During a discussion about the similarities on Reddit, one fan wrote: "I'm guessing Will is gonna have to sacrifice himself because he connects Vecna to the rightside up or harbors part of his soul or something but unlike Harry he may be dead dead fr."
A second replied: "It'll be so sad if they kill Will. He has been in hell since episode 1, he deserves a happy ending."

"Neither can live while the other survives," added a third user in a different discussion, echoing the Harry Potter prophecy.
However, not everyone is convinced that Will is going to die defeating Vecna, with another fan pointing out that his story could end up being an inverse of Harry and Voldemort's.

"I believe that, unlike in Harry’s case where he supposedly had to die to kill Voldemort, Will has to live in order to defeat Vecna," they wrote.
