With the final season of The Boys just one sleep away, fans of the show trying to remember what happened last time round won’t have the time to rewatch the entire show and try and remember all the vile things Homelander has done over four seasons.
If you are wanting to be a bit more prepared than the average The Boys viewer however (and not find yourself googling what they’re talking about five times an episode) there are three key episodes of the show you should be watching.
The Boys is Prime’s biggest TV show to date, with last season racking up one billion minutes of viewership.
The series may have started out as a parody of superheroes known solely for its batsh*t wild scenes, but the final season sets up a conflict and stakes that compete with even the most beloved Marvel TV and Film outings.

For the fans who want to spend tonight rewatching three of the key episodes of The Boys – here’s the three you should be watching.
The show’s Herogasm episode is known for its lewd moments – but is actually vital for the plot (Season three, Episode six)
The Herogasm episode of The Boys is one of the wildest of the entire series, with it being revealed that supes get together every year to host a super-powered sex party.
Actor Laz Alonso even revealed that many of the extras from the series were real couples, stating that he saw them ‘going at it’ during the episode. This lewdness however distracts from how serious an episode this is in the wider narrative.

Season three introduces the idea of non-powered people taking compound V to give themselves temporary albeit dangerous powers. This episode sees Soldier Boy and a powered-up Butcher and Hughie take on Homelander, almost killing the terrifying supe.
With season five seeing the titular boys trying to kill Homelander for good, this episode perfectly sets up the upcoming storyline where he tries to become immortal – a vulnerability that was born in getting his a*s beat in this episode.
The Boys season four finale’s ending leads directly into season five (Season four, episode eight)
The ending to The Boys season four’s finale sets up all the major plot points in season five perfectly, particularly Homelander’s power grab, Butcher’s madness, and the capture of our protagonists.
The Boys season four looks set to be ending on a relatively happy note after they thwart a plot to try and assassinate President Singer.

Unfortunately however Vice President Neumann is murdered by a tendril-y supped up Butcher, who also takes a vial of the supe-killing virus she was holding onto.
In addition to this Hughie, MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko are all captured by Homelander’s forces, with Singer arrested and a Homelander-sympathetic politician declaring martial law and placing the supe in charge of the country. With season five’s trailer showing Hughie and the others in ‘freedom camps’, this is looking to be a major plot point in the new episodes.
One of the most important episodes to rewatch isn’t actually in The Boys, it’s in the spin-off show Gen V (Season two, episode eight)
Gen V may not be quite as successful as The Boys but the season two finale of the college set spin-off gives viewers a lot of useful information heading into the final season of the original show.
Fans who have never watched it are missing out on some pretty major plot points, most importantly that it sets up what Annie and A-Train have been up to since the end of season four.

The super-powered pair have set up a resistance that is fighting back against Homelander and his new authoritarian powers.
In addition to this, whilst reviews have hinted they don’t play a huge role in the narrative, the main characters of the spin-off Jordan and Marie are shown in the first trailer for season five having joined up with the newly founded resistance.
The Boys season five release 8 April on Prime Video worldwide.
