With the amount everyone has to pay for streaming services nowadays, few things beat being able to watch amazing TV for free.

Whether it’s ITV, Channel 4, BBC iPlayer, or Tubi, there is nothing better than finding an outstanding show that you can watch without emptying your wallet on a subscription to the seemingly endless number of streaming services.

That is exactly what some fans on Reddit have come across, finding an Amazon Prime mini-series that can be watched for free on BBC iPlayer, and some reviews called it a ‘masterpiece’.

The show, which stars Emily Blunt, was met with outstanding reviews from critics, with an 84 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an average score of 7.8 on IMDb.

The series, called The English, follows a woman looking to seek revenge on a man she believes to be responsible for her son’s death.

Starring alongside Emily Blunt on the show is Chaske Spencer, Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Ciaran Hinds, and Valerie Pachner.

Set in 1890 in America, Blunt plays an Englishwoman Cornelia Locke, who begins her journey for vengeance after meeting Spencer’s Eli Whipp, an ex-cavalryman and member of the Pawnee Nation.

Created by Amazon, it now streams for free on BBC iPlayer, and the reviews for it are outstanding.

Lucy Mangan, writing for The Guardian, gave the show a perfect five star review, calling it a ‘rare, sensational masterpiece’.

She went on to say: “[Creator] Hugo Blick’s revelatory series is a gorgeous, glorious new take on the old west – a lawless land where no one can hear you, or anyone in your way, scream.”

Hugo Rifkind of The Times said in his review: “The camera work is mesmerising. The acting is perfect. The action sequences are also beautifully tense.”

Empire Magazine’s Boyd Hilton also gave the series a perfect five star review, saying: “A massively ambitious and original take on the Western genre confirming the extraordinary writing and directing skills of TV auteur Hugo Blick, while showcasing one of Emily Blunt’s greatest performances yet.”

The show came up in a discussion on Reddit of series that are ‘so addictive you have to watch the next episode right away’, with one comment simply responding saying: “The English was so f**king good”.

Another review of the show, by a viewer on the fan section of Rotten Tomatoes, gave it five stars before saying: “This is my favourite piece of media. It definitely has flaws and the side stories can be kind of difficult to keep up with, but the storyline is incredible and deeply moving.

“The romance is refreshingly unselfish and loving. I think about the show often and it genuinely changed the way I view love as a concept.
