NBC has issued an apology after erroneously airing the wrong footage while covering Tiger Woods' latest car crash.

The golfing star, 50, spent a night in the cells last week after his Land Rover rolled over in the town of Jupiter Island in Florida.

He was taken to jail after his vehicle collided with a pick-up truck that he was attempting to overtake last Friday (27 March), at around 2pm local time.

Woods, who walked away from the hair-raising incident unharmed, was subsequently charged with driving under the influence before later being released on bail.

His vehicle also rolled over when he crashed his Genesis SUV in February 2021.

The 15-time major winner sustained multiple injuries to his legs and ankles, which left him needing several surgeries, following the incident in Los Angeles that took place five years ago.

Speaking to reporters at the Hero World Challenge in November 2021, Woods said of the smash: "I’m lucky to be alive and also have a limb."

While NBC Sports host Paul Burmeister was sharing details of Woods' most recent crash on Saturday (28 March), viewers were shown footage of the 2021 crash rather than the one which occurred last week.

People tuning into the segment seemed to immediately spot the mistake, as a host of social media users promptly pointed it out.

One person said in a post on X: "Well done NBC Sports. The video you just showed of Tiger Woods vehicle was not from his accident yesterday. Come on, do better."

Another branded the mix-up 'despicable', saying: "Okay, NBC, you're terrible. I just watched an update about Tiger Woods car wreck yesterday.

"All you did was show damage from his wreck five years ago. Nothing about the minor wreck yesterday. Despicable."

Burmeister's fellow NBC Sports presenter Dan Hicks later addressed the incorrect footage while covering the Houston Open later in the day.

"We want to take this time to make a correction," Hicks told viewers.

"Before we came on the air today with our regular PGA Tour coverage...our studio show inadvertently showed the incorrect picture of the car crash Tiger Woods was in.

"It was another previous car crash. It was not the correct one. The latest one, that was yesterday, so, we apologise for that. Just wanted to straighten that out before we go any further."

LADbible has contacted NBC for further comment.

Woods spent around eight hours in Martin County Jail following the smash last Friday and was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to lawful test.

Sheriff John Budensiek previously told reporters that the golfer 'did exemplify signs of impairment' when officers arrived at the scene.

"They did several tests on him," Budensiek said. "He did explain the injuries and surgeries that he’s had and we did take that into account, but they did some in-depth roadside tests.

“When it was determined, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Martin County jail.

"At the Martin County jail, and even on scene, we were really not suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case and that proved to be true.

"Mr Woods did a breathalyser test with triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinary analysis test, he refused and so he has been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test."

Budensiek said that Woods had been driving at 'high speed' before his vehicle then tipped onto its side and 'slid for a pretty decent space before he came to a stop'.
