Speculation has been swirling all week after it was revealed that Tom Hardy was fired from the upcoming third season of MobLand, with the new details lining up very closely with previous allegations of bizarre on-set conduct levied at Hardy.

It was announced last Friday, 22 May, that Hardy had been fired from the show where he stars as Harry Da Souza.

This brought to light previous reports which stated that he was regularly late to set, prompting anger from MobLand co-star Helen Mirren, though she publicly denied reports that the pair were feuding.

The initial report by Puck News stated that he was fired after a showdown with producers which saw showrunner Jez Butterworth issue an ultimatum that Paramount+ either fire him or fire Hardy. Despite the Peaky Blinders star being the celebrity lead of the star-studded show, it appears Paramount+ chose to let him go.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter has expanded on this, saying that an insider source claimed that Hardy’s behaviour on the set was tantamount to ‘career suicide’.

Hardy reportedly spent hours in his trailer refusing to come to set, leaving his A-List co-stars waiting

The behaviour which reportedly led to Hardy’s firing took place during the production of season two, which has not yet been released.

The THR source said: “He refused to come out of his trailer for hours at a time.”

This reportedly ‘spooked’ producers, with the source adding: “He kept the cast waiting, [which is] a power play. Keeping Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.”

Whilst not yet officially confirmed, this does line up with the report from 2025 by the Daily Mail which saw an unnamed source claim: “He can be late to filming and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined.

“She expects better. She holds people to a high standard. She’s 80. She’s been there and seen it all.

“The behind-the-scenes crew watch it all and believe that she no longer looks as happy working on scenes with him. It has all become quite personal between them.

"It’s a fantastic show and everyone loves working on it. It’s such a shame there is this undertone."

Hardy’s alleged conduct lines up with a previous on-set feud with Charlize Theron

The Puck News report which announced the firing said that Hardy ‘was apparently late to set a bunch, constantly asked to give notes on scripts, attempted to change dialogue, and expressed his displeasure that a series initially built around him was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase for Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and other co-stars’.

Hardy’s lateness to set is something the actor has become slightly infamous for after a high profile feud with Charlize Theron on Mad Max: Fury Road that saw the pair get into aheated argument, with Theron asking for security as a result.

A book on the controversial set of the film was titled Blood, Sweat and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road and reported that Hardy would show up to set hours late on multiple occasions, in one instance leading Theron to request that he be fined $100k for 'every minute that he's held up the crew'.

The book claims that Hardy then charged up to her and was 'aggressive', leading to Theron requesting personal protection on the set of the film.

She said in the book she 'didn't feel safe' and was 'scared s**tless'.

Hardy had to be 'coaxed out of his trailer', director George Miller told The Telegraph, adding: "I think there’s a tendency in this business to use great performances as an excuse for other disruption that could be avoided."

The Dark Knight Rises star admitted his faults on the film, stating that he was 'in over his head', with both stars pointing to the intense pressure they were under during shooting.

He responded to the allegations by saying: "What [Theron] needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me. That's something that can't be faked. I'd like to think that now that I'm older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion."

What have Tom Hardy's other co-stars said about working with him?

Sir Patrick Stewart

Stewart and Hardy worked together on 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis, in which Hardy played the villain Shinzon.

The X-Men star described Hardy as 'an odd, solitary young man from London' in his memoir Making It So, adding: "Tom wouldn't engage with any of us on a social level. Never said, 'Good morning,' never said, 'Goodnight,' and spent the hours he wasn't needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend."

Hardy's MobLand co-star was rumoured to have been 'frustrated' with his alleged habit of turning up late to set, according to The Sun.

But she shut down the rumours with an Instagram post last December which praised Hardy 'for his brilliance onscreen, his dedication off screen, his good heart and especially the HardyHugs I get when onset with him which is not nearly enough in my opinion'.

Butler and Hardy starred alongside each other in 2023's The Bikeriders.

Butler said: "I pictured him to be this grizzly bear, always serious. And really, he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.

"He’d be joking around until action is called, and then go into being the most intense guy I’d ever seen."
