The Netflix series has received great reviews thus far and has even knocked Dahmer off the top 10 spot.

Unfortunately the ending of the show has left people furious.

Initially, Theodora (Noma Dumezweni), a private detective hired the family, ends confessing to being The Watcher.

The detective convinced the family that she was the former occupant of the house who attempted to scare them in order to move back in.

However, it's later revealed that Theodora is terminally ill and lied about the whole thing because she wanted the family to feel some relief prior to her death.

The Watcher’s identity remains unresolved, which is ultimately the ending of the series and the same conclusion reached in real life.

One unimpressed user tweeted: "The ending of The Watcher might be hands down the worst ending to any piece of cinema I’ve ever had to see.

"All the directions they could’ve went and THAT is how they end it? Utterly horrible."

A third person said: "The Watcher on Netflix...dont even watch that s**t im p*ssed TOTAL WASTE OF TIME had me all into the show for 7 episodes and the ending is complete and total bs! You had me terrified for hours...couldnt go to sleep and that ending make me angry! so dumb WASTE OF TIME."

Another thought: "binge watching the watcher & wtf, I cannot figure out the ending, everyone’s a mf suspect."

"Just finished The Watcher. I know it’s based on a true story but that ending made the whole series an absolute waste of time," one other person added.

It seems that the series tried to keep some elements of the story as close to the real-life version as possible. However, a woman who lived near the real house from The Watcher claims that the Netflix series made up one specific fact about John List - a real-life serial killer.

Joe Mantello plays character John Graff, who is based on real-life serial killer John List.

And now, a woman who claims to have lived nearby List says that the Netflix series made up one specific thing about the character.

She claims that List 'didn’t live in the house/get letters but did live in Westfield'.

Taking to Twitter, Shanna Kelly wrote: "OK let’s talk John Graff — based on John List — from #TheWatcher on @netflix.

"He didn’t live in the house/get letters but did live in Westfield.

"He was on America’s Most Wanted for murdering his mother, wife and 2 children. My mom lived in the next town over during this time.

"The show captures the premise: They lived with his mom, the wife drank, the daughter did things he didn’t like, he was religious, had $ problems and pretended to go to work.

"After killing his family, he lined all their bodies in the ballroom and left classical music playing.

"He cut his face out of all the photos, making it hard for authorities to find him. He then moved and started a new life and remarried.

"He was eventually found because of #AmericasMostWanted and died in prison."
