After five seasons and seven years Prime Video’s biggest show, The Boys, has finally come to an end – and fans are less than pleased.
The Boys took the world by storm in 2019 when it provided a grim, dark, and incredibly raunchy parody of superhero TV shows.
The first three seasons were met with near unanimous praise, but in the final two seasons fan reaction has turned against The Boys, with a number of viral tweets online calling the final season ‘boring’.
Where The Boys used to have a laser focused plot (with an occasional scene of debauchery) the final season is meandering and takes almost as much time setting up its upcoming spin-offs as it does on the actual plot. Though there are still fans who enjoyed the ending, a large and vocal majority online have dubbed the finale ‘the worst ever’.

The finale sees Homelander finally bite the bullet after being depowered by Kimiko, with Butcher being the one to finish him off using his iconic crowbar.
Not content with just the one supe death however, and spurred on by the tragic passing of his dog Terror, Butcher heads to Vought Tower to release a virus and kill every supe on the planet. Hughie stops him, shooting his friend and mentor, and everyone else more or less lives happily after.
With The Boys finale coming out just a day after the seven year anniversary of the disastrous ending to Game of Thrones, some fans are making a comparison between one of the most hated moments in the final season of the HBO show and the Prime Video series’ final instalment.
Fans are comparing The Boys finale to Arya Stark killing the Night King in Game of Thrones
For those who haven’t seen Game of Thrones (or those who have simply blocked the final season out of their minds) the entire show built up a character called the ‘Night King’, an evil undead who was threatening to destroy the world.
After seasons of build up between Jon Snow and the Night King it ended up being his sister Arya Star, who had very little connection to the villain, who ended up dealing the final blow to him. The writer’s chose to subvert expectations, and it was not well received by fans.

After The Boys finale one fan tweeted: “Erik Kripke really went with the Arya Stark ending for The Boys. I guess he gave it away with the Kimiko - Soldier Boy experiments.”
Another quote tweeted a video of Kimiko depowering Homelander, saying: “I told you we were in for another Arya stark moment.”
The finale of The Boys has been called ‘the worst ever’ by some fans

Listen, does The Boys likely have the literal worst finale ever? As someone who has watched both The Umbrella Academy and Game of Thrones, it can definitely get worse.
But that hasn’t stopped fans weighing in with similar opinions, with one simply saying on X: “The Boys has the worst finale of all time.”
Another said: “Oh my lord the leaks were NOT true the boys finale was dogsh*t.”
A third was more specific in their criticism, and it’s quite hard to deny. They said: “Homelander being turned into an immortal in episode 6 and then being killed 2 episodes later is a bad writing lmao.
“The V1 Arc should have been done in S4 with no implications that the virus can't work on it and let that be one of the twists. Horrible final season.”
The Boys season five finale is available to stream on Prime Video now.
