Clearing out your school lunch can be a drag, but eventually the fear of food going off usually forces you into action, right?

Well, not if you're TikTok user Rachel Stecia's brother.

The 21 year-old was horrified to discover her younger sibling's lunch box in his school bag, unopened since he last went to school on March 13th 2020.

Stecia took to TikTok to share the contents of his 14 month-old lunch, which unsurprisingly were completely nauseating. It included a banana that had turned blacker than a lump of coal, and a sandwich that had been taken over by bacteria to the extent that it looked like it could just stand up and walk right out of its packaging.

"It's my brother's first in-person day back at school since March 13, 2020 and he never emptied his lunch box," Rachel Stecia, 21, captioned the first of three videos that documented his "science experiment".

The second video documented her throwing the offending lunchbox itself outside, quite obviously completed ruined after housing food that looked ready to start the next stage of evolution.

Finally, the real victim of the lunchbox was revealed in the third video. It was their mum, of course, who was left with the unenviable task of throwing the food out. Stecia has slept in the following day and not woken up in time to document further the grim study.

However, her mum had managed to take some pictures of the offending items. If you're eating while reading this we can only apologize.

Focusing in on the banana on third clip, Stecia captioned it: "The banana - I can't".

Stecia junior has, like most American students, been studying remotely during lockdown and so hadn't had cause to check his school bag since he'd last been in during spring last year.

However, with the vaccine programme at full steam ahead in the US, kids have been returning to study and it was this that caused his sister to make the gross discovery.

The TikTok videos have been viewed more than four million times and picked up thousands of comments. Understandably most people are completely disgusted by the teen's rotten food.

"Y'all BETTER send that to Pfizer to create a new vaccine," one user joked.

"My dad would make me eat it!" another person added.

"I would have thrown the whole thing away," a third said. "Lunch box included."

While one said "that sh*t is deadly", another mused: "There's no way I'm going to be that kind of mum - kid can clean his own mess."

We have some sympathy for the younger Stecia; we've all left our lunchboxes or bags unopened for a bit after coming home from school or work. However, at fourteen months it's lucky the offending contents haven't set off a new pandemic.
