Jeremy Clarkson's controversial pub rule that sparked months of backlash could be solved

Clarkson's Farmer's Dog has been slated on TikTok, but there's a British solution to his ban

Jeremy Clarkson's odd rule at his Farmer's Dog pub caused more hassle than it was worth, but the rule has finally had an update.

The Farmer’s Dog is well known to the UK after it appeared on Clarkson’s Farm where the former Top Gear host opened up his doors to Brits in need of pub grub a year ago.

After documenting his time working as a British farmer, he decided to become a pub owner, but immediately implemented a strict rule at the pub.

This rule stated that The Farmer’s Dog would only use British produce and British drinks, using a great locally-sourced ethos.

However, there’s some things that just aren’t fully British, and this caused quite a bit of backlash when it came to light that normally expected drinks and condiments would not be on offer.

For example, ketchup, coffee, and Coca-Cola were all banned as they could not be sourced entirely British, black pepper was also not offered because Clarkson claimed it is ‘ten times more expensive’ to source in the UK than abroad.

So, no-one was getting a nice pub grub meal with a side of ketchup, a slurp of Cola or pepper to boot.

Can’t say I blame the outrage, Clarkson. What were you thinking?

Anyway, People who visited Clarkson's pub called the rule 'weird', but it could all change thanks to a TikTok condiments company that made a major breakthrough.

The group ‘Condimaniac’ are a British condiments company, who began their journey in 2019.

They became inspired in May after seeing Clarkson’s pub ‘no ketchup’ sign and decided they’d attempt to craft an entirely British-sourced condiment themselves, posing on TikTok about their challenge.

However, it was a resounding success as Condimaniac announced earlier this month that they had managed to do it and even shared that the Farmer’s Dog would be stocking it.

They said they had travelled down to the Cotswolds to let the staffers at Clarkson’s pub to try the condiment, and apparently, they loved it.

Co-founders Kier Kemp and Jennifer Dreier praised the staff, with Kemp stating: “It is not just a gimmick for them they do really live and breathe this 100% British thing.”

He also called the pub the 'best wholesale clients I have ever dealt with', adding: “Everyone I have met is super lovely.

“I am glad that I can report they are actually nice people. It is not always like that.”

This isn't the only controversy the pub has had, as one time Clarkson banned a customer for calling it too expensive, and pub-goers are limited to one hour per table when it comes to dining.

Sadly, there’s a hitch with the lift on the ketchup ban though, as it’s only on sale as whole bottles for customers to buy from the pub and the shop.

Again, this led to backlash on TikTok, with one person saying: “I thought the whole point was so people can have some with their meal, not have to buy a bottle.”

Another said: “Well done! Bit sh*t that Guests have to buy a whole bottle if they want ketchup in their breakfast sandwich though.”

Others came to the pub’s defence, however, pointing out that it would for now be too expensive until it can be proven to justify mass manufacturing.

At least there’s ketchup to dip your chips into.
