McDonald's bringing 'infamous' US menu item to UK for the first time ever and there's not long to wait

The viral Maccies item will only be on the menu for a short time

For those of us deep in the food trends world of social media, there’s too long a list to mention of products and menu items we’re just desperate to try but realistically, will never get a chance.

From the all-you-can-eat KFC buffet in Japan to the likes of viral cookies and pastries in cities around the world. Or there’s the fictional foods like a Krabby Patty from Spongebob or a plate of Michael’s spaghetti from The Bear.

But it often feels like our dreams simply won’t come true.

Although, McDonald’s might just finally be granting some fans’ wishes as it brings over an ‘infamous’ US menu item to the UK for the first time.

And there’s not long to wait lads as the special shake is set to land in restaurants this month to celebrate McDonald’s UK’s 50th birthday.

Yes, shake. For foodies in the know, or just those of us deep in US memes on TikTok, it might be obvious what this purple drink is. The Grimace Shake, of course.

The legendary shake was first sold in Maccies in the US for a month back in 2023 to celebrate the 52nd birthday of the purple milkshake-loving character from McDonaldland.

It then had its second limited run in Canada earlier this year. And now, we’re next.

It’s fair to say the McDonald’s shake went so viral thanks to the #GrimaceShake trend where TikTok users would drink the purple stuff and then film themselves in staged gruesome, weird situations.

But you know, you could just suck it up and enjoy the shake as a tasty drink rather than make weird videos.

Priced at £2.69 for a medium and £2.99 for a large, the Grimace Shake features a blueberry flavoured syrup blended with that popular Maccies creamy milkshake base.

The iconic drink will be available at participating UK restaurants from 28 August until 3 September.

And if you’re desperate to get one earlier, there’ll be a special shake pop up at London’s Box Park Shoreditch from 12pm-6pm on 26 August.

We’ll be getting the Grimace Shake just before the return of the 'best ever' burger.

Yep, it was recently announced that the Philly Cheese Stack is set to come back to McDonald’s UK in September.

This comes after fans ended up petitioning for the burger to be made permanent as they said they were that ‘heartbroken’ over the loss of the cheesy menu item last year.
