McDonald's fans are having a hard time believing what goes into making the ultimate dipping sauce.
Whether it's your McNuggets, chicken selects or French fries, most people need to dip it into something to contrast from the crispy fried batter.
Not me though, I ask for no dip. I know, I'm a bit odd. Anyway, I see my mates often tucking into their 30g dip, and it's usually a choice between three - ketchup, curry sauce, or sweet and sour, which is obviously not what you get in the Chinese takeaway.
Traditional sweet and sour sauce is typically a mixture of honey, vinegar, fruit juices like pineapple or ketchup, a bit of cornstarch to thicken, and then garlic or ginger for that umami flavour.

Maccies, however, have a completely different recipe and I'd imagine it's reflected in the taste.
What is McDonald's Sweet ’N Sour dip made out of?

Australian radio presenters Jase and Lauren once took it upon themselves to tell listeners what was in the special sauce.
In a resurfaced clip from their show, Lauren revealed that the famous dip was made with a secret ingredient - one you would never expect.

As her co-presenter was enjoying his chicken nuggies, she asked him if he's ever wondered what's actually in the dip.
"'Have you ever thought about what Sweet 'N Sour sauce is actually flavoured?" Lauren asked. "Would you believe it is actually... apricot flavour?"
Ok, that is a bit of a shock, even for a non-sauce guy like myself.

"I hate apricot.. I can taste the apricot now," a frustrated Jase replied, before throwing his nugget away.

It turns out that he wasn't the only one who was a bit surprised, as people were quick to comment on the viral video, clocking how apricot actually goes so well with chicken.
"Omg my mum use to make apricot chicken," one person wrote, as another added: "Apricot goes so well with chicken that makes so much sense."
While a third added: "Finding out about Caesar salad dressing destroyed my love of it."
Well, according to McDonald's menu, the full ingredients list is as follows:
Advert
• Apricot Puree
• Caramelised Sugar Syrup
• Dried Red Bell Pepper
• Glucose-Fructose Syrup
• Modified Maize Starch
Advert
• Natural Flavourings
• Rapeseed Oil
• Salt
• Soy Sauce
• Spices
• Spirit Vinegar
• Sugar
• Thickener
• Water
I mean, I can't imagine anyone about to scoff down a Maccies gives much thought into what actually is in their fast-food meal, but there you go.
