The most popular names for babies born in England and Wales have revealed a new ranking this year, and it might shock you.
Naming your baby has never been harder. Once upon a time, there were less names around, way back before people began experimenting with what they could legally get away with (Elon Musk, I’m looking at you).
There were the Bartholomew's, Conchobar's, Aldreda’s and then the Wigmund’s of the world.
See? Normal sounding names.

But now, parents are pretty stuck on either using the standard top 10 or creating their own new names.
So, if you don’t want to spend hours poring over the most unique baby name for your kid and want to make sure, you’re choosing one you already know is popular, stay tuned.

According to the Office for National Statistics, there has been a change in previous years in regard to which name holds the most prominent spots.
For example, Amelia was seen to be the second most popular girls’ name in the UK, but has since dropped down to third place, being replaced with Lily.
There’s also the case of the boy’s names changing over the last few years, with Muhammad topping the list for the third year in a row, making it one of the biggest contenders to jump places in the past 10 years– up 11 spots since 2015.
Muhammad also topped the list for names of boys for every single month in 2025.
However, the largest jump goes to Luca, which went up 49 spots.
As for girls, Olivia is still holding steady as the most popular girls’ name and has been a non-mover for a whole decade!
