All signs of ‘Ozempic face’ after number of celebrities shared impact jab had on their health

Ozempic can have a number of side effects

While it’s been knocking around among A-listers, elites and movie stars for a number of years, Ozempic has now become a well-known thing for helping with weight loss.

A number of celebrities have since spoken out about the impact the injectable had on their health. Ozempic’s primary purpose is actually for treating people with Type-2 diabetes and in the UK, this is all it is currently approved for on prescription.

While the drug is not currently FDA-approved for weight loss, the similar Mounjaro is available on the NHS for weight-loss treatment.

The injectables are different but do share similarities and both may potentially cause what is often referred to as ‘Ozempic face’. Aside from the obvious difference in size, this is one of the physical body changes that people say can be an indicator of using the drug.

What causes Ozempic face?

Dr Carolina Goncalves, from Pharmica, previously told LADbible that this ‘very rare side effect’ can happen when some of the body fat lost is fat from the face.

Essentially, ‘Ozempic face’ can occur when rapid weight loss causes sagging in the cheeks and particularly around the mouth.

Dermatologist Dr Michele Green told DailyMail.com that Ozempic depletes the subcutaneous fat – the visible layer just under the skin that you can pinch.

“By depleting the subcutaneous fat, the skin appears thinner, with more wrinkling and often lipstick lines,” she said.

What are the signs of Ozempic face?

As you’d imagine, quickly losing a load of weight can make the body and your features appear different.

And Harvard Medical School experts reported that a rapid loss of fat in the face can cause a hollowed look to the face; changes in the size of the lips, cheeks, and chin; wrinkles on the face; sunken eyes; and sagging jowls around the jaw and neck.

Making up the face, there may also be ‘Ozempic mouth’ which happens when fat is lost from the lower face.

Dr Ed Robinson told The Sun: “This can lead to deeper nasolabial folds (laughter lines), more prominent marionette lines (the vertical wrinkles that extend from the corners of the mouth down towards the chin), and downturned corners of the mouth.

"It often creates a tired or prematurely aged appearance."

General side effects of Ozempic and celebrity experiences

The most common side effects of the treatment include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and constipation.

That feeling of sickness was something Amy Schumer spoke about as she said it left her ‘bedridden’.

“I was like, vomiting — and then you have no energy. But other people take it and they’re all good,” she previously explained.

The same goes for Stephen Fry who says he was vomiting ‘five times a day’.
