One of the largest cruise lines in the world, Carnival, has clarified to customers about how to get free Wi-Fi on its ships after one customer complained about a 'disgusting' policy.

Carnival Cruise Line is the largest subsidiary business of Carnival Corporation & plc and as such, hosts millions of passengers every single year as its ships journey around the globe.

And as with any cruise line on the planet, the cost of your cabin is only part of the price if you want the full cruising experience. Sure, you get your food included with that, but alcoholic drinks? That comes on top - with drinks packages available that can save you money.

And then there is Wi-Fi. And cheap, it is not.

Carnival cruise Wi-Fi costs explained

Carnival has four different plans for those cruising with it, starting at $18.70 per person, per day for its 'social' plan which lets you access the likes of Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, Reddit and Facebook.

The 'value' plan at $22.10 per person, per day will get you access to the internet on top of that as well as email access. After that, there is the 'premium' plan at $23.80 which has faster speeds and also access to streaming apps like Netflix, Spotify, and FaceTime.

The cream of the crop is the multi-device 'premium' plan at a whopping $84 per day, for four devices, which is a cheaper way of doing just the 'premium' plan individually if you're a group with multiple devices.

'Disgusting' Carnival Wi-Fi policy?

Complaining about the Wi-Fi policy and costs, one Carnival customer emailed Carnival's Brand Ambassador, John Heald, who shared the complaint on his Facebook page.

"I have had to have a defibrillator installed before my cruise coming up," one Carnival customer wrote in an email to Heald.

"Doctor said it is okay to cruise. This device needs to stay connected to the internet through my phone for monitoring. I think it is disgusting that Carnival is cashing in on those of us who have medical conditions by forcing us to purchase the internet.

"There should be medical exceptions for the internet on your ships so you do not have to pay to check your health. This is a s**t policy.

"What will Carnival do about this? Our cruise is coming up on 16 February. Also how do we get chairs without arms in the restaurant and on the balcony?"

Wi-Fi 'bypass' can happen

Thankfully Heald was able to offer some practical advice that fixed the issue for the customer, while explaining policy for anyone else in a similar situation when cruising with Carnival.

"Thank you and I thought I had should share this for anyone who has a medical device, diabetic monitoring device etc because please know we are able to help you," Heald wrote in response.

"And so please, if you have medical proof that you need our help to bypass the internet to check your own health device then please know we have some brilliant people at the Mother Ship to do just that.

"Before you cruise, please send them your details and request to them at the following email address: [email protected]. They will listen and they will help all they can."
