Summer is fast approaching, and many of us are already looking to start booking our summer holidays. But, with prices steadily on the rise, and people feeling the pinch more than ever, some of us are looking for a way to shave a few quid off our summer holiday this year.

From the price of booking flights and getting a hotel, down to restaurants and entertainment, going abroad isn't cheap. Thankfully, experts over at Which.co.uk have offered some expert advice on how to use your mobile phone to save money on your holiday this year.

Which travel expert Lauren Bell has taken to Instagram to offer holiday makers some expert advice on how to reduce the cost of their travel plans this year, including a handy phone hack which could literally save you hundreds.

Booking your hotel

Lauren explains that she would 'never check book a hotel on a computer without checking on my mobile phone first'.

She explains that she was able to save £270 on the price of an apartment in Amsterdam by booking using a mobile exclusive travel deal, instead of using a laptop or desktop computer to book.

She also saved almost £100 on a weekend on Florence with Expedia.

While it might seem like you're getting a great deal on many of these comparison websites, according to Lauren, you can often find even better deals if you check for mobile exclusives on your phone.

Booking your flights

Next Lauren explains that you should always make sure to check the cost of flights directly through the airlines themselves.

While online travel agents might appear to be cheaper, Lauren explains that they 'tend to whack up the prices of extras' which could see you paying extra for baggage, or even to be able to sit next to your friends or family.

She also explains that she would 'never pay to sit together on a plane' however, she does explain that you should if you're flying with Wizz Air or Ryanair, as both airlines are likely to force you to sit separately if you've not paid to sit together.

But, she explains that both British Airways and Jet2 are much more happy to let you sit together, without forcing you to pay extra.

Booking your vehicle

Booking a car can be another expensive part of your holiday, but thankfully, Lauren has a simple hack to save money here too.

She explains that you should never book car hire insurance with the company in which you have hired the car directly.

While you might be pressured at the desk, the chances are you will find that going through a third-party insurer will not only be cheaper, but will even offer you much more comprehensive coverage too.

Exchanging your money

Finally, Lauren explains that you should never exchange your money while at the airport.

While it might be convenient to exchange money while at the airport, doing it elsewhere could save you a lot of money by offering you a better rate.
