A man was arrested for falling foul of incredibly serious rules after being stopped while trying to board a cruise ship.

The individual had tried to get on board Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas while it was part way through its journey out of the USA on a tour of the Caribbean.

But their journey through security saw officials on the island of Aruba act quickly after discovering an item on the person that there is a zero tolerance policy on when it comes to bringing on board.

Royal Caribbean is always altering its rules and regulations, with the cruise line recently introducing a new age ban that is not good news if you want to head on to the open seas as a younger person.

Other cruise lines are at it too, with Carnival recently informing customers about why balconies are a no go area for drying your clothes.

One rule that is universal on all cruise ships is no room for error when it comes to firearms and importantly, bringing them on board. Which brings us back to Aruba.

According to local press, a man tried to bring a revolver on to the Oasis cruise ship only to be thwarted at port security.

With the gun found and seized, the man who had it on his person was placed in custody with authorities unsure as to how he got the gun - whether it was local or somehow slipped through security in Miami when first boarding.

The cruise ship departed from Florida on 22 February at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, with investigations now likely to focus on the process involved in finding the gun - or even potentially missing it back in the United States.

Doug Parker from Cruise News Today explained the incident on his YouTube channel, saying: "A cruise passenger was arrested in Aruba after attempting to board Oasis of the Seas with a revolver.

"The firearm was discovered during a routine security screening last week on the island. Local police detained the unidentified man and authorities are investigating whether he brought the weapon onboard in Florida, or obtained it in Aruba."

Parker added: "Firearms are strictly prohibited on Royal Caribbean ships, as any ship. It is illegal to bring into a port without special permits."

Royal Caribbean's website states that: "All firearms and weapons, ammunition, explosives and incendiary devices are strictly prohibited. Firearms and weapons include, but are not limited to, the following items: rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers."

On top of this, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) has warned people travelling to the Caribbean from the USA about it being 'illegal to import or export firearms or ammunition to or from any CARICOM (Caribbean community) member states unless you have a firearm import license or a firearm export license granted by the appropriate authority'.

It is not known if the man was released, charged, or even allowed back on to the ship once the firearm was removed from his possession.

LADbible approached Royal Caribbean for comment and details on the case.
