Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary was charged for extra leg room while at restaurant

The businessman got a taste of his own medicine while dining at Luvida

Ryanair's ridiculously rich CEO got a taste of his own medicine while dining at a restaurant in Ireland - as he was slapped with a host of unexpected charges.

Michael O'Leary's evening meal ended up costing a lot more than it should have after he was stung by a series of surprise fees.

And given that the budget airline he owns is notorious for imposing extra costs on customers, people reckon that the sneaky add-ons were more than justified.

O'Leary, who boasts a net worth of $1.1billion according to Forbes, visited the Irish restaurant Luvida for some grub back in March.

The businessman, 64, ordered a slap-up meal consisting of battered prawns, mushroom on toast, and seabass, as well as some other tasty bits.

He washed it all down with a €30 (£27) bottle of pinot grigio while visiting the establishment in Navan, Co Meath - but probably nearly swallowed his teeth when he got the bill.

That's because staff at Luvida had hilariously added a number of extra charges on top to tease the Ryanair boss.

This included a €7.95 fee for 'extra leg space', another €9.95 for 'priority booth seating' and a further €19.05 for sitting in a 'quiet area reservation'.

By Ryanair's standards, this should be considered a small price to pay - as the airline is famed for forcing travellers to fork out for every single extra.

Whether it's allocated seating, extra legroom, the size of your hand luggage or needing your boarding pass reprinted, Ryanair want paying for it.

So, you can hardly blame the Luvida employees for poking a bit of fun at O'Leary when the opportunity presented itself.

In a tongue-in-cheek post shared to Instagram back in March, the restaurant wrote: "Thank you to Michael O'Leary for choosing to dine with us tonight!

"It was a pleasure to host you. Hope you don't mind us adding some additional charges to your bill for extra leg space, priority booth seating and quiet area reservation."

Social media users seemed to think that the tables being turned on O'Leary was hilarious, as one quick look at the comment section will tell you.

One person wrote: "Should have charged him an extra £80 for not printing out his own menu."

Another said: "Absolutely brill!!! It's about time he has got a taste of his own medicine."

A third added: "You just got a client. If I’ll ever come to Ireland, you’ll be on my schedule. Great job and great sense of humour."

While a fourth then chimed in saying: "It is funny and sad at the same time."

Luvida's restaurant manager, Marika, later revealed that they 'chickened out' of actually charging O'Leary the comical fees - but said they wouldn't be so lenient next time.

"I have those buttons on the till now, so next time he’s getting charged," she joked while previously speaking to the Sunday World.

"He did leave a nice tip. There was a comment [under the social media post] saying he probably didn’t, but he did!"

Either way, it seems O'Leary was a good sport about the whole thing - while a lot of Ryanair customers got quite the kick out of Luvida's prank.
