The Egyptian pyramids are one of the most well-known landmarks in the world, welcoming more than 14 million visitors per year.

The pyramids in Giza are the last standing monuments of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and have been a popular tourist spot for centuries.

However, a recent clip shared on TikTok shows the realities of stepping foot inside one of the ancient monuments and it’s left some folks vowing never to pay them a visit.

TikTok user @jessmelu posted a clip of her travels to Egypt including a trip to the pyramids.

In the clip, she can be seen standing outside the pyramids before entering through a small door and heading down a staircase, she then makes her way through an increasingly narrow passageway before entering a room inside.

Sharing the post, she wrote: “Would you be scared?”

And it turns out that, yes, lots of people would be scared - one person said: “Amazing but I could never. Just watching the clip triggered my claustrophobia.”

Another commented: “My breath literally ceased just by watching this from my bed. My claustrophobia won't let me try this.”

A third said: “I couldn’t do it. I’d also be the person to fall and wipe everyone out.”

While someone else added: “Nah I was hyperventilating just watching this.”

This isn’t the first time a TikTok user has shown off what a visit to the pyramids is actually like.

TikToker @touchdalight gave three compelling reasons why going and seeing the pyramids might not be the best idea you ever had.

Climbing around inside a pyramid can also be 'dangerous', as the TikToker's video showed one of his friends banging her head on one of the cramped crawlspaces inside.

The second reason? Apparently this is 'the fact there's no air con inside', though I think the Ancient Egyptians can be let off this one considering air conditioning was invented quite some time after their civilisation collapsed.

Back in the days of the pyramids being built the corpse they were housing wasn't going to complain, so while it might be absolutely roasting in Egypt that's just something you'll have to put up with.

Thirdly and finally, he explained that the reality of visiting the pyramids is that it's 'actually so epic you won't experience anything like it again'.

Yep, it turns out that the pyramids are a tough act to follow, meaning that once you’ve been there you may struggle to find anything else to compare it to.
