Sadly, in this day and age, racism and scathing attacks on religion are still very common.

Born out of misunderstanding and lack of knowledge, some people think it's okay to abuse someone else for their skin or belief. And in a world dominated by social media, it's a lot easier for those scumbags to do it.

17-year-old Lamyaa, from Pennsylvania, USA, was subjected to this kind of abuse in a group chat.

According to Lamyaa, she is in a chat that includes members she's not familiar with. Because of this, someone took aim at her with a disgusting comment regarding her hijab, reports Buzzfeed.

Because of the message, she texted her dad to check if that was indeed the case.

She said to him: "Baba, I want to tell you something," to which he replied, "talk to me" and "are you ok, my love?" in Arabic.

In three separate messages she said that she was thinking about taking off her hijab, unaware of what he might say.

Well, his response was very heartwarming.

"Sweetheart that's not my decision to make. That's no man's decision to make," he replied. "If it's what you feel like you want to do, go ahead. I'll support you no matter what.

"Women - in the Middle East specifically - face oppression but it is due to culture not religion," Lamyaa told Buzzfeed.

"People often mix the two and say the cultural practices are religious practices. That is far from the truth."

She also posted screenshots of the messages on Twitter, which have since racked up 323,000 likes and 149,000 retweets.

She replied to the tweet, which said: "Since this is a mentality a lot of you seem to have", with another message saying: "No I'm not taking my hijab off".
