Couple close GoFundMe after ‘more than enough raised’ for man jailed after tackling burglars

Adam White has been overwhelmed by the more than £170,000 that has been donated so far.

A couple has closed a GoFundMe after more than £170,000 (AUD $308,302 or USD $206,346) was raised for the man who was jailed for attacking two burglars.

Adam White, from Eggington in the UK, was sentenced to 22 months in jail back in February after attacking would-be thieves that broke into his home.

Burglars Taylor Benford and Ryan Paul, both 25, tried to escape on a stolen motorbike; however, White chased after them in his vehicle.

But as White misjudged the bend in the road, he seriously injured the pair after losing control of his car and ploughed into them.

Bedfordshire Live reported that Luton Crown Court sentenced White, who had no prior convictions, to a lengthy sentence.

However, he was released in September and now requires an ankle bracelet.

Meanwhile, Benford and Paul, who had previously been found guilty of theft, reckless driving, criminal damage, shoplifting, and drug dealing, were not sentenced to prison.

Instead, they were ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.

White’s story was featured on 24 Hours in Police Custody on Channel 4, which led one outraged viewer to launch a GoFundMe on the man’s behalf.

Scott Tulloch wrote in the fundraiser’s description: “He was put away for 22 months for knocking them off their STOLEN bike, and they got ZERO prison time. He spent £50k of his life savings. Let’s get it back to him!!

“I have been in touch with Adam's wife, Lindsay, who will be transferring the funds directly from the fundraiser. Thank you for all the support so far.”

Tulloch has now raised more than £170,000, prompting Adam and his wife to close the GoFundMe.

White wrote on Twitter: “We hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and New Year. Thank you, everyone, from the bottom of our hearts.

“We have now requested the go-fund me to close and Lindsay has made a message below.”

The message from his wife below also thanked White’s supporters as she noted the donations were more than enough to cover their losses.

While speaking with the Mirror, White explained how he lost his data centre job following his arrest.

Worst of all, his wife, who was pregnant at the time, decided to abort their unborn child as she struggled to cope with the stress of the case.

He added: “I will regret what I did for the rest of my life. It was a moment of madness. Thank God no one died. I have paid a high price.”
