£100,000 raised for dad who was jailed after tackling burglars while they escaped prison sentences

£100,000 raised for dad who was jailed after tackling burglars while they escaped prison sentences

A staggering amount of money has been raised for a dad who was jailed after tackling burglars in 2019.

A whopping £100,000 has been raised for a dad-of-two who was jailed for tackling two people who were trying to burgle his home.

Adam White's story was told this week on an episode of Channel 4's 24 Hours in Police Custody, where him, his wife and two children were targeted by two would-be burglars.

Back in 2019, White chased burglars in his car as they attempted to escape with a stolen motorbike.

The vehicle was from White's home in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire - and the events following it did not play out well.

During the chase, White lost control of his vehicle, with the burglars sustaining serious injuries.

In the Channel 4 programme, White said he 'didn’t realise how sharp' a bend was, which meant he plowed into the motorbikes.

The damage was evident to see.

Bodycam footage from the night of the incident shows White being arrested and asking: “Am I in trouble? I’m not going to prison for this am I?”

In February this year, White was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment for causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Luton Crown Court.

Meanwhile, the two burglars, Taylor Benford and Ryan Paul, both 25, were ordered to do 200 hours of community service.

This is despite them both having a history of convictions including theft, reckless driving, criminal damage, shoplifting, and drug dealing.

Since White's ordeal was aired, many people have offered their support, and a fundraiser was set up by on the behalf of his wife.

The GoFundMe page shows the level of support for White, with over five thousand donations, topping a staggering £100,000.

The page reads: "He was put away for 22 months for knocking them off their STOLEN bike, and they got ZERO prison time. He spent £50k of his life savings. Let’s get it back to him!!

"I have been in touch with Adam's wife, Lindsay, who will be transferring the funds directly from the fundraiser. Thank you for all the support so far."

Adam and his wife Lindsay thanked the public for their support since they appeared on TV.

In a separate post, White said: "Thank you to everyone for your kind words and heart felt sympathy we have been through an awful lot, it was hard seeing this on TV and with all the messages I've received has been amazing and very emotional I honestly cant believe the public is behind me.

"This is unreal the support from everyone. My wife has just told me some people have set up a go fund me, and it honestly breaks my heart.

"Thank you, everyone from the bottom of my heart, I'm lost for words."
