A cat has been filmed apparently saving a baby from crawling down a steep flight of stairs, incredibly using its paws to push the child back into the room and away from danger.

According to China Press, the incident is believed to have taken place in Colombia.

The clip was shared in a Facebook group called Fundacion Gatos Bogotanos en Adopcion, where people post cat-related content.

In the video, you can see a baby crawling around on the floor next to its crib, while a cat looks on from the sofa. The baby begins to crawl across the floor towards a door - where there is a staircase just off-camera.

With no one else in the room, the cat jumps down from the sofa and rushes over to the baby, pouncing gently on the child to stop them from moving further.

Somehow, the cat manages to literally push the baby back into the room, pushing its front legs at the infant to coax them away from the staircase.

A photo of the staircase was also posted in the group, showing just how hairy the situation could have been.

Oh, and here's the cat, too.

Unfortunately, not all cats choose to be as helpful as this critter. In fact, they're often quite the opposite - like the cat that was recently caught out turning off his owner's alarm in the morning.

After finding they kept sleeping through the alarm and, as a result, turning up late for work, the cat's owner decided to investigate what was going on.

Eventually, they found it was their cat, Joaquim, who was to blame - and after working out what was happening, the unnamed owner filmed Joaquim in action.

In the clip - which was recorded on 27 July in the Sao Carlos region of Sao Paulo, Brazil - their phone starts ringing and vibrating, before the sneaky moggy runs straight over to the device.

Joaquim jumps up on to the bedside table, then paws at the phone's screen until the alarm no longer makes a sound.

The cat's owner said: "My companion and I were arriving late to work because the phone alarm wasn't waking us up.

"Recently, we have discovered that our kitty Joaquim was the one who was turning off the alarm."

To be fair, it is really annoying when someone's alarm keeps going off when you just want a nice bit of kip, so maybe Joaquim is a hero in his own way after all.
