Expert issues 'armageddon' warning claiming humans are facing 'extinction' from major threat

The WMO has warned that the 'Earth’s climate is more out of balance than at any time in observed history'

A meteorology expert has warned that humanity is staring at the possibility of 'absolute extinction' if it doesn't act soon.

It comes after the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned in their new 2026 report that the 'Earth’s climate is more out of balance than at any time in observed history'.

Burning fossil fuels have increased levels of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide to their highest levels in hundreds of thousands of years.

This has disrupted the Earth’s natural energy balance, meaning more heat is entering the planet than leaving it.

And scientists believe the effects of rapid warming could last for hundreds or even thousands of years.

'It sounds like I'm preaching the armageddon'

"The big story is what the WMO has come out with, which is the world's energy imbalance, and temperatures at the highest for 125,000 years; particularly ocean temperatures," British Weather Services' Jim Dale told the Mirror.

"That points to extinction. And I don't say that lightly. I say it in absolute terms. I'm saying, if things continue unabated as they are, then we are facing, as a human race, potential extinction."

Dale said that our loved ones 'are going to face a real terrible future if we don't get on top of fossil fuel use and thereby temperatures'.

'Like dragging the Titanic up'

The company founder compared the challenge to 'a bit like dragging the Titanic up from the seabed - but we've got to drag it up and turn it around and that might do something'.

He insists that we are only at the start of real climate change, and predicts 'major catastrophes' in the future.

"That's the thing that will tip the balance and people's realisation, a bit like a war coming to them," Dale said.

"You're not really worried about the war in, you know, Iran or Beirut until a bomb lands on London, for example.

"It sounds like I'm preaching the armageddon. And to be frank with you, to a certain degree, I am. Unless things can turn around. If we don't get our act together."

The hottest 11 years on record

2015 to 2025 has been the hottest 11 years ever recorded, with 2025 around 1.43°C warmer than pre-industrial levels from 1850 to 1900.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has declared that 'the state of the global climate is in a state of emergency' because 'planet Earth is being pushed beyond its limits'.

“Humanity has just endured the eleven hottest years on record. When history repeats itself eleven times, it is no longer a coincidence. It is a call to act,” he said.

“And in this age of war, climate stress is also exposing another truth: our addiction to fossil fuels is destabilising both the climate and global security.

“Today’s report should come with a warning label: climate chaos is accelerating and delay is deadly.”
