Boozer is now accepting bottles of Prime energy drink as payment instead of cash

A restaurant chain has revealed that as well as paying for a pint with cash or card, you can now also use a Prime energy drink.

If you thought kids storming supermarkets over Logan Paul and KSI's energy drink was a bit much, then wait until you hear about this.

No pennies to spare? No problem. It may call itself the 'meatiest pub in the UK' but it appears to be going on a liquid diet.

Instead of taking cash or card, you can now pay for your pint with a bottle of Prime energy drink at The George Pub and Grill, which has restaurants located in Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and Redcar in North Yorkshire.

In a bizarre turn of events which has seen us transported almost back in time to the days of trading goods, you can now pay for your food and drink with an unopened bottle of Prime energy drink.

While the drink was initially sold exclusively at ASDA at the price of £1.50, because of the craze it's started and how quickly people are pouncing on it, some bottles are now being sold for as much as £30 on sites such as eBay.

The George Pub and Grill has valued each bottle of Prime as currently being worth £6 - if you paid the restaurant with two bottles and add on extra 95p, for instance, you can get your hands on a Wagyu Cheeseburger.

Craig Harker, a father-of-three who owns and runs the blog 'Dad Loves Food' and lives in Stockton-on-Tees, has reflected on the whole craze around the drink as being 'absolutely nuts'.

"It's easier to get your hands on gold and diamonds than Prime at the minute. [...] I haven't seen a craze like this probably since the PlayStation came out," he reflects.

And the reason for the popularity of the drink?

Harker theorises: "I think kids do naturally like energy drinks but it's also two of the biggest YouTubers in the world doing it - like Logan Paul jumping out of an aeroplane drinking a bottle.

"I can understand why ASDA put the three bottles maximum on it because kids are going crazy for it - it's obviously hit home with them because they're rushing to the aisles like Usain Bolt and clearing them in no time."

Despite the escalating behaviour of children to get their hands on one of the bottles, the father can't help but commend their efforts.

Harker - who's managed to get hold of some bottles himself and is planning to do competition giveaways - resolves: "Fair play to them for getting up early morning to get something they want that's very rare at the minute.

"I think I'll keep the stock in a vault in some secret location, and move it around in an armoured van.

"I wonder how much security costs, and whether I can pay them in Prime?"
