Cara Delevingne is donating her orgasm to science for climax investigation

"I’m here to have an orgasm and donate it to science"

While most people donate their time or money to research, Cara Delevingne is pledging something far more unique.

The 30-year-old model has said she's 'donating her orgasm' as part of a study on the gender climax gap, with the results set to be shown in a new documentary:

For those not in the know, the gender climax gap refers to the idea that men are more likely to orgasm during sex than women.

There are obviously exceptions to this rule, but ultimately data continues to suggest this is the case.

In fact, a recent YouGov survey found that 63% of straight men always reach the summit during sex, as opposed to 30% of straight women.

These figures differ slightly when it comes to gay men and women, with 56% and 40% climaxing every time respectively.

This is one of many topics covered in the upcoming six-part documentary Planet Sex With Cara Delevingne, alongside relationships, sex appeal and the rise of pornography.

At this point, you might be wondering what exactly it means to donate your orgasm to science.

Well, as will be shown in the doc, researchers received a sample of Cara's blood before and after the Big O so they could measure the level of endocannabinoids in her system.

Heightened volumes of endocannabinoids have been shown to promote feelings of relaxation and reduced anxiety.

And studies suggest that these levels increase following an orgasm.

Speaking about the new research from outside a hospital in Germany, Cara explained: "I’m here to have an orgasm and donate it to science.

"I think female sexual desire has definitely been repressed.

"I know from my own love life just how sexual women can be so you’d think in the 21st Century men and women should be having equally satisfying sex lives, right?

"Well, prepare for a shock."

She continued: "When it comes to the orgasm there is a definite gender gap.

"Scientists say that 95% of straight men orgasm during intercourse but only 65% of straight women do.

"To be honest I think that sounds way too high, most of my straight female friends say it’s probably more like 15 or 20%.

"Lesbians and queer women definitely seem to have it better."

As for the results, viewers will have to tune in to find out what is discovered off the back of the model's donation.

If you're interested in checking out Planet Sex With Cara Delevingne, the series premieres on BBC Three and iPlayer on Thursday, 1 December, at 10pm.
