Conor McGregor looked to break security protocol when he met Vladimir Putin at the 2018 World Cup final in Moscow. Watch below:

Despite being one of the most confident blokes you'll come across, McGregor looked to give off a slightly different vibe towards the Russian President.

The former UFC champion was in attendance with the now 69-year-old Russian leader for France's 4-2 win over Croatia.

After seemingly having a laugh with the man currently threatening to potentially invade Ukraine, he made the mistake of putting an arm on the shoulder of Putin.

A member of Putin's security team instantly appeared to instruct the MMA star to remove his hand away from his shoulder.

The Notorious One's expression switched ever so slightly and the pair then shook hands for a pic.

At the time, The 33-year-old posted on Instagram about the meeting.

"Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin," McGregor wrote.

"This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honoured to attend such a landmark event alongside him.

"Today was an honour for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup."

Anyway, fans were having a great time in the comments.

One user joked: "McGregor : puts his arm around Putin.

"Security : So you have chosen death."

Another added: "Imagine McGregor punching Putin and then the entire Ireland is gone from the map."

Someone else commented: "I don't know why I've watched it at least 10 times and can't stop laughing.

"The way Conor puts his arm around his shoulder and then realised his mistake and his awkward adjustment...This is hilarious"

A fourth wrote: "Since that day McGregor's double has been doing an incredible job."

Well, with regards to what's happening now, legislators have given Putin permission to use military force outside the country.

The move could presage a broader attack on Ukraine after the US said an invasion was already under way there.

Several European leaders said earlier today (22 February) that Russian troops have moved into rebel-held areas in eastern Ukraine after Putin recognised their independence.

But it was unclear how large the movements were, and Ukraine and its Western allies have long said Russian troops are fighting in the region.

Moscow denies those allegations.

The White House today (22 February) began referring to Russian troop deployments in eastern Ukraine as an 'invasion' after initially hesitating to use the term – a red line that President Joe Biden has said would result in the US levying severe sanctions against Moscow.
