Tesla CEO Elon Musk is on track to becoming the world's first trillionaire, a new study suggests.

The 50-year-old is currently the world's richest man and has an estimated worth of a whopping $263 billion (£199.95 billion).

With 'an annual average increase of 129%', he could quite possibly enter the trillion-dollar club in just two short years.

The study, conducted by approve.com, say his net worth could go up to '$1.38 trillion (£1.05 trillion) by 2024 at age 52', which is bonkers.

The study explains: "We analysed the net worth of the richest 30 people in the world according to Forbes and recorded the last six years of data from current standings back to 2017.

"All data was retrieved on 19/01/2020.

"Out of these 30, we excluded those without a minimum of five years of data and who therefore did not have enough data for us to calculate a reliable annual average rate of growth.

"We then calculated the average yearly % growth rate for each member over the last six years and extrapolated this to give predicted data for the next 30 years.

"From this, we predicted who would be the first to reach trillionaire status and at what age."

Their top 20 list of the billionaires predicted to become trillionaires includes chairman of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani, in second place, set to become a trillionaire in 2025, and Zhang Yiming, the chairman and founder of Beijing ByteDance Technology Co. in third and set to become a trillionaire the following year.

Joint fourth goes to Mukesh Ambani (2029), the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited, which one one of India's most profitable companies.

The other fourth placed candidate is Bernard Arnault (2029), the chairman and chief executive of the world's largest luxury goods company, Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is remarkably in seventh place and it's been predicted that he has to wait till 2030 to become a trillionaire.

Poor lad.

Well, just last week, Musk announced a date for when humans will fly to Mars in his company’s Starship rocket.

Musk has faced a number of setbacks on his pursuit, such as Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin lawsuit against NASA after it awarded SpaceX a multi-billion-dollar contract, as well as his decision to shift priorities towards the Starlink space internet project during Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

However, responding to a question on Twitter on Wednesday evening (16 March), Musk suggested 2029 would now be the year SpaceX will take humans to Mars.

I mean, if Musk becomes a trillionaire before Bezos and beats him to Mars, I'm sure that won't go down well.
