Fair play to you Dermot.

X Factor's resident cheeky chappy Dermot O'Leary had ITV viewers in hysterics on last night's Saturday Night Takeaway with Ant and Dec.

O'Leary was set a host of embarrassing tasks to complete in a branch of Tesco, via the Geordie duo, through an earpiece.

In what more level-headed viewers might describe as a slightly melodramatic response, some people watching the show said the stunt was "the funniest thing on TV", with one fan even claiming she was "nearly sick" from laughing.

One of the stand out moments from the segment was when O'Leary accosted a store employee and encouraged him to sing into a cucumber.

However, things got even funnier when the worker belted out a half decent rendition of Michael Jackson's 'You Are Not Alone'.

The side-splitting segment of the ITV show was entitled 'I'm A Celebrity Get Out Of My Ear' and saw O'Leary stealing customers' food, clambering into trolleys and trying to shake hands with fellow customers using a banana.

The X Factor funny man even managed to hitch a lift to the cheese aisle in a shopper's trolley.

"Oh my god - I'll charge you two pound to get there," said the bewildered customer, to which Dermot replied, "My legs just gave up - you're the man thank you."

After the stunt, the mortified host joined Ant and Dec in the studio, telling them how embarrassed he had been during the skit.

He claimed that the worst part was jumping into the trolley and presenting a shopper with champagne for an unknown celebration - which he then had to take back minutes later.

"You could see you were slowly dying inside," joked Dec, who was dishing out some of the more embarrassing tasks.

Fair play Dermot. Rather you than us.
