Biohacker spending $2m a year to 'stay young' reveals radical plan after stopping 'injecting himself with his son's blood'

Bryan Johnson has stopped injecting himself with the blood of his now 19-year-old son

A biohacker who spends $2 million every single year in his attempts to 'stay young' has revealed a radical new plan after giving up on injecting himself with his son's blood.

Since his son Talmage was just 17-years-old, American entrepreneur Bryan Johnson has been injecting himself with the young man's blood as part of his attempts to stop his natural aging process.

In 2023, he announced that he was giving up on injecting himself with Talmage's blood after finding 'no benefits' to doing so.

Now aged 47, Utah-native Bryan says he is 'upgrading' on his plan.

Talmage, now 19, recently moved to California to live with his dad and the duo went viral after their 'erection tests' had a bit of a mixed reception on social media.

'Upgrading' on blood therapy

Instead of blood, Bryan is now going down the route of a practice known as total plasma exchange, or TPE. He says the move will help 'remove unnatural pollutants' from his system.

"I am no longer injecting my son's blood. I've upgraded to something else: total plasma exchange," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) this week (28 January).

"Step one, take out all blood from body. Step two, separate plasma from blood. Step three, replace plasma with five percent albumin and IVIG [intravenous immunoglobulin]."

Posting an image of a bag of his blood plasma, he added: "Who wants it?"

What is albumin and IVIG?

The process of TPE sees blood plasma removed from Bryan's system. Blood plasma is a liquid in your blood that carries blood cells, nutrients, and other substances throughout the body, making up more than half of blood.

This has been replaced with albumin, a protein in your blood that regulates your body's function, which works in the growth and repair of tissue among other behind the scene goings on.

Low levels of albumin could be a sign of kidney disease or infection, according to Cleveland Clinic.

It is a controversial move given that blood plasma is also a beneficial part of your body function.

The Red Cross says that it has four important functions in helping to maintain blood pressure and volume; supply critical proteins for blood clotting and immunity; carry electrolytes such as sodium and potassium to our muscles; and helping to maintain a proper pH balance in the body, which supports cell function.

As for IVIG, that stands for intravenous immunoglobulin. It is a product of the blood which is injected into the body and used to treat conditions by replacing antibodies in the body.

Why has Bryan Johnson done this?

Bryan claims the new therapy has 'great effects in removing toxins, waste products, old mis-folded and glycated proteins and immune complexes'.

The businessman says the therapy 'has shown measurable effects in delaying and reversing age-related disease including dementia, as well as the capacity to reduce biological age based on various parameters, including blood proteomics and biological aging clocks'.

He's set to provide updates on his albumin and IVIG journey in the next few weeks.
