A determined doctor volunteered to be the test subject for his very own Botox experiment to demonstrate the benefit it can have on your appearance.

You might have seen before and after pictures before now, but have you ever seen a seven-day progress report which illustrates how the neurotoxin takes effect?

If you answered no, you'll be glad to know that Dr Anthony Youn make a video documenting exactly this, so that we can all gain a better understanding of how Botox settles down over the course of a week.

Botox is a prescription drug named botulinum toxin, which has the ability to temporarily paralyse muscles - and when you inject it in strategic locations, it can work wonders for your appearance.

As it blocks signals being sent from nerves to the muscles, they can no longer contract. This gives the appearance of smoother, more youthful-looking skin.

Dr Youn - who is a board certified plastic surgeon, award-winning author and anti-aging expert - is a big fan of the stuff.

In a YouTube video shared back in 2020, he put his money where his mouth is and uploaded footage of him undergoing the cosmetic treatment, while talking people through what it involves.

He told viewers that he has a few Botox injections 'every so often' to keep his wrinkles at bay, while detailing how he didn't really find the process painful at all - although he did admit he has an unusually high tolerance for pain.

Dr Youn said he can sit through one of these sessions 'without reacting', before describing what it felt like when the needle slipped into his skin and the nurse administered the drug.

"On the pain scale of one to ten, this is about a 9.5," the medic said. "But as you can see I'm not flinching at all, because I have such good pain tolerance. It's a little more than a mosquito bite, but that's about it."

"Botox lasts anywhere from three to four months," the doctor, who prefers to take an 'holistic approach to turning back the clock', added.

"It usually will take at least a few days for it to take effect...it can take up to a week or so."

So, after verbalising all of this, it was only right that Dr Youn shared a follow-up video a few years later documenting exactly how Botox takes effect over a seven day period.

In the short video, he showed himself frowning shortly before receiving some injections. Like most blokes his age, he had a few visible lines, was able to furrow his brows and appeared quite expressive.

The clip then cut to show the needles being poked into specific areas of his face as he jokingly said 'ow' - before explaining that he was playfully exaggerating about the pain.

In the footage shared with his 5.5million YouTube subscribers in 2022, Dr Youn then showed what he looked like 'immediately after' having Botox.

He then did the same over the next seven days, which allowed people to visualise the slow but steady hold that Botox takes over the muscles in your face.

Needless to say, Dr Youn looked like a new man by the time a week had passed by - and people couldn't believe how brilliant his results were. However, others suggested it hadn't made that much of a noticeable difference.

One person commented: "I've never seen the daily progression like this. This reel was very helpful."

Another wrote: "Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t notice much difference."

A third added: "Pretty interesting! Definitely something I'll look into as I get older."

A fourth chimed in saying: "Um, I'm good aging naturally thank you."

And a fifth said: "I love this because… I just got 14 units about 10 days ago and haven’t noticed any difference yet!"

Whatever side of the Botox debate you're on, at least Dr Youn's insightful video is some food for thought.
