Man who lost nine stone on Mounjaro in under a year reveals biggest mistakes when taking the drug

A man who lost nine stone and transformed his life using Mounjaro has revealed the biggest mistake he made using the medication.

Also known as tirzepatide, the GIP and GLP-1 drug is currently available in the UK for weight management, with an estimated 1.6 million Brits currently accessing weight-loss drugs through either private or NHS prescriptions.

One person who had a successful experience using the drug is Marc McKee, a 34-year-old who started using Mounjaro after exhausting every other form of dieting.

Combined with changes to his diet and lifestyle and Marc was able to lose nine stone in 10 months – with the Northern Ireland native crediting the drug for helping him reclaim his life.

In one post, Marc addressed the top five mistakes during his early days on the medication 'no one warns you about'.

"Number one: not plan ahead for social events," Marc explained. "So I wing it and end up buying something that didn’t sit right or felt pressured into just fitting it in – so check that menu before you go out."

He then put the second mistake as ‘letting other people’s opinions influence me’ such as comments he doesn’t ‘need’ to be on Mounjaro.

"You just gotta protect your peace," he added.

"Number three, do not compare yourself with others. So rookie error - I used to obsess over what other people on Mounjaro are doing.

"Why are they losing weight faster than me? It’s a trap, their body isn’t your body."

His fourth mistake was ‘not dressing for your change in body’.

Marc found that wearing ‘oversized clothes’ caused him to feel ‘disconnected from my progress’.

"So when I started buying clothes that actually fit, my mindset caught up," he said.

As for his final mistake, Marc revealed it was waiting too long before starting to build new lifestyle habits.

"I treated it like a quick fix at first," he said. "But when I focused on routine, sleep, hydration, movement, that’s when things started to feel sustainable."

Marc spoke about his weight loss journey in an interview with LADbible last year, revealing the surprising psychological effect that came with it.

"As the weight started coming off, I had to confront who I was without the fat armour I’d worn for so long. Looking in the mirror became disorienting," he said.

"Even now, I sometimes forget how much space I used to take up. That kind of mental adjustment is something no one really prepares you for."

Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, said to LADbible: "Mounjaro (tirzepatide) should only be used when prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional, and prescriptions should be fulfilled and supplied by registered pharmacies or providers.

"We encourage patients to consult their doctor or other healthcare professional to discuss any possible side effects they may be experiencing and to ensure that they are getting genuine Lilly medicine."
