Johnny Depp's Legal Team Played Monopoly During Amber Heard Trial

Johnny Depp's Legal Team Played Monopoly During Amber Heard Trial

Johnny Depp successfully sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation

Johnny Depp's lawyer has revealed that his legal team would play Monopoly to ease nerves while waiting for a verdict.

Just last week, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was able to prove that Amber Heard's 2018 article in The Washington Post was defamatory and won $15 million (£12 million), later capped at $10.35 million (£8.27 million) by Judge Penny Azcarate.

In a separate verdict, Heard was also awarded two million dollars (£1.6 million) in damages via a counterclaim.

However, as mentioned by lawyer Benjamin Chew, the team would play the board game as a way of relaxing – despite seeing his colleagues get a bit overly competitive at times.

I mean, it's impossible not to get rattled when you land on Mayfair with a red hotel on it.

During an interview with Law&Crime Network, he said: "We were so tense that one of my colleagues bought a Monopoly game, so we played Monopoly in our little breakout room and I saw a side of some of my young colleagues that I've never seen before.

"But the second we heard that the jury was coming in, of course we folded up the game and then it was just our hearts were in our mouths."

Meanwhile, it seems Depp has been pretty active following the verdict and has been on the sesh with Sam Fender in Newcastle, along with hopping on stage with English rock guitarist Jeff Beck.

Beck has since revealed that he and Depp are set to release an album together.

After the verdict landed in his favour, Depp released a statement on social media, which, in part, read: "Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye.

"False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me.

"It had already traveled around the world twice within a nanosecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career.

"And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.

"My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was only made after considerable thought.

"From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome.

"Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me.

"I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that."
