The FBI has confirmed it has exhumed the body of Alonzo Brooks as they continue their investigation into his death.

The man's sudden and mystifying death was featured in Netflix's rebooted series Unsolved Mysteries.

A spokesperson for the Kansas City FBI confirmed to E! News: "The body of Alonzo Brooks was exhumed today as part of the ongoing investigation."

Alonzo went to a party one night in April 2004 and was never seen again. Witnesses at the house party say Mr Brooks was the target of racial slurs that night. A massive search effort was conducted in the local area and his body was found near the house at a creek outside of La Cygne, Kansas.

An autopsy was done but it didn't establish the cause of death.

Last year, the FBI revealed it would be reopening the case.

In June this year, just before the Unsolved Mysteries reboot featured on Netflix, the FBI announced they would give US $100,000 to anyone who had information on Alonzo's death.

U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said in a statement: "Likely multiple people know what happened that night in April 2004. It is past time for the truth to come out. The code of silence must be broken. Alonzo's family deserves to know the truth, and it is time for justice to be served."

Since Unsolved Mysteries debuted on the streaming service at the beginning of this month, producers had received loads of tip offs about some of the cases.

Interestingly, it was Alonzo's episode, 'No Ride Home', that copped the most.

Series' executive producer Terry Dunn Meurer told Variety: "Alonzo Brooks was probably [the case] we've received the most emails on. Lots of theories that we had already heard when we were producing the episodes, but there are some new names that have come in and that we forwarded onto the FBI.

"There were a lot of people there at that party, somebody witnessed what happened. We just hope that they'll come forward.

"The FBI offering that $100,000 dollar reward, which they just announced in the last month. That was so incredible and hopefully motivates somebody to come forward with what they know in that case, because somebody knows."

It's likely the FBI has received some decent enough information if they have dug up his body.
