When you're searching through a GIF search engine to fire back an epic reply to your mate, you'll likely have a bunch of favourites stored up.

Some people have a go-to meme or GIF for pretty much every reaction and emotion and they are truly masters of their game. It can also be sometimes hard to find the right reply if you don't know the proper name for it.

You might have typed in 'Julia Roberts confused' to get that classic GIF of a woman looking puzzled while a bunch of mathematic equations pop up on the screen. It's perfect for conveying your confusion or lack of comprehension on a topic.

But people have been just as confused to discover that the woman in this GIF and meme isn't actually Julia Roberts. It's not Claire Danes either, or Vivian Ward, or Sarah Paulson.

It's actually a Brazilian actor Renata Sorrah and the scene that the meme is from is from an episode of Senhora do Destino. The South American telenovela ran from 2004 to 2005 and the specific moment of confusion comes when Renata's character is in a prison.

But don't worry, you're not the only person to have thought it was Ms Roberts over the years.

One person wrote: "When you think it's a Julia Roberts meme but it's not yet it looks exactly f***ing like her."

Another added: "You know what i'll never get over and still to this day f***s me up and I die...is that for FOREVER I thought this meme was Julia Roberts in older lady makeup and I scream."

A third summed it up with: "WAIT IS THIS MEME NOT JULIA ROBERTS I HAVE BEEN THINK THIS WAS JULIA ROBERTS THE WHOLE TIME."

People have been well and truly blown away that this isn't what they thought. The same can be said when the true identity of this meme and GIF was unveiled.

Warner Bros.

Loads of viewers thought it was The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis, however it was later revealed to be the epic actor Robert Redford.

It's a scene from Redford's 1972 Jeremiah Johnson and people couldn't believe it.

The film focuses on Jeremiah Johnson, who decides to become a mountain man and live in solitude, however, his peace is shattered by the Crow Tribe who force him to engage in combat. We can safely assume it's not a hilarious comedy.

The GIF has been circulating since 2012, according to Know Your Meme, and while it's not going to be information that will save the world or create world peace, it's always nice to know what you're sending to your mates.
