As we enter January, many of us are on the ‘New Year, New Me’ hype, telling our friends we’re going to get insanely jacked before the year is out and only eat nutritious, healthy meals.

Now wouldn’t fulfilling all these promises be easy to fulfil if we could afford a personal trainer and chef and had say... £2.2 million?

Well one lucky man in France is set to have the best year of his life after he took home a €2.6 million (£2.2 million) jackpot from a casino slot machine.

The winner, who has chosen to remain unnamed, scooped up the win on 2 January in the evening to the shock of everyone around him.

Proving that you have to be ‘in it to win it’, the operator of the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux casino in northern France described the gambler as an 'occasional player', who finally received the return on his investment we can only dream of.

The ‘Megapot’ of prize money the man won in the case was made available by the Partouche group on 175 slot machines in 38 French casinos.

According to the group, 31 people have won more than a million euros in the last 10 years - that's pretty good going, if you ask us.

Perhaps not as excited as the winner but excited nonetheless, the casino announced the jackpot result on their Facebook page: “It's madness! The #Megapot fell this evening at Pasino de Saint-Amand on machine 297!”

The post continued: “Yes, 2022 promises to be truly incredible at Pasino!”

A day before this win, lightning struck twice in France when a woman won £167,000 after she played 67p in a slot machine at the Barriere casino in historic port Saint-Malo.

Before you pack up your things and move to France however, it is good to remember that slot machines can be really, really addictive and are hardly the most reliable of investments.

Recently, The Mirror reported that a woman lost £50,000 in just six days on online slot machines at the height of her gambling addiction.

So overall, an absolute corker for the unnamed man in France, but stay safe out there guys.
