Mark Zuckerberg rips into Elon Musk's plans for the Neuralink brain chip

The CEO of Meta made a surprise appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience to talk about the future of technology.

Joe Rogan has had a doozy of a guest on his latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, with none other than Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sitting down with the controversial host.

The head of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and the Metaverse found himself laughing about 'robot' memes that followed his appearance in Congress, revealed he doesn't use social media (the Facebook founder is too busy), and took a cheeky dig at fellow tech-billionaire Elon Musk.

The Facebook founder rubbished Musk's Neuralink brain chip technology, telling Rogan that the tech is not advanced enough for 'normal people' as of yet.

"The super hard part is having a computer give you information straight into your brain," Zuckerberg told Rogan.

Neuralink, a company founded by Musk, has previously revealed that it hopes to make 'brain chips' for disabled people to grant them the power to control computers and mobile devices.

Musk has claimed the brain chips will be ready this year, bur Zuckerberg was having precisely none of that.

"Some people, like Elon, and Neuralink and those companies, are taking it super far-off and maybe it’ll be ready in a couple of decades," he told Rogan.

The Meta CEO added that brain chips are pretty far off in the future, but it is unlikely that people will implant them into their brains just for the hell of it.

"There will probably be interesting use cases in the near term for people with injuries, but normal people in the next 10 to 15 years are not going to want to get something installed in their brain for fun is my guess," Zuckerberg said.

The tech boss appeared on Rogan's podcast to promote the Metaverse and the possibilities that come with his augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) tech.

“Imagine if you didn’t have to move to some city that didn’t have your values in order to be able to get all the economic opportunities, that would be awesome,” Zuckerberg, 38, said.

"So in the future where you can use AR, VR, and teleport in the morning to the office and show up as a hologram, I think that’s going to be pretty sweet, right?

"It will unlock a lot of economic [opportunities] for a lot of people."

Podcast host Joe Rogan couldn't resist a cheeky dig at the tech whizz, reminding Zuckerberg of the memes that saturated the internet following his testimony to US Congress in 2018.

“I don’t like the way you sip water though, you sipping water at the Senate, you were sipping water like a robot,” Rogan joked on the three-hour long Spotify podcast.

The Facebook CEO laughed off the reference and took a sip of water to prove to the controversial host that he is, in fact, human.

“The Senate testimony is not exactly an environment that is set up to accentuate the humanity of the subject,” Zuckerberg told the UFC commentator.

He added: “If you’re up there for six or seven hours you’re going to make some face that is worth making a meme out of.”
