I'm sure many people all over had their own little traditions to bring in the New Year as the clock struck 12 last night.

One thing we probably all did when we drew closer and closer to midnight was a countdown to bring on 2024 with a bang.

However, it appears some have been more creative than others with their countdown as one NYE party opted for an 'iconic' countdown involving one particular BBC news reader who recently went viral and has since reacted to the clip.

Have a look:

Now, unless you've been living under a rock for the past couple weeks, you'll know all about BBC news reader Maryam Moshiri unexpectedly giving the middle finger live on air.

Earlier this month (6 December), the Chief Presenter flashed her middle finger just before transitioning into a news bulletin.

She later issued an apology and provided a bit more detail behind what was going on behind the scenes.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, she wrote: "Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery.

"I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one.

Maryam Moshiri went viral for unexpectedly flashing her middle finger live on-air.

"When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera.

"It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn’t ‘flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really.

"It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates."

So, to be absolutely honest, it was only a matter of time before the already meme-worthy clip worked its way into a New Year's Eve countdown party.

Last night (31 December), Maryam took to X to upload a picture of a mock-up of her doing the countdown for the annual London fireworks celebration.

Moshiri shared a mock-up snap of her doing the celebration countdown.

She captioned the post: "I’m letting someone else do the countdown tonight! I’ll be home with the family .. wishing you all a wonderful New Year."

"May you all enjoy health and happiness in 2024," the news reader added.

Meanwhile, TV critic and broadcaster, Scott Bryan, posted a video from a New Year's Eve celebration which used Maryam's iconic countdown clip as the countdown for when the clock struck midnight.

Tagging Maryam, he captioned the short clip: "Happy new year," to which she responded: "OMG!!!"

The countdown video has since been reviews nearly a million times since it was first posted to the platform with dozens of people rushing to also share their reactions in the comments.

The BBC news reader reacted to the 'iconic' clip being used as a NYE countdown.

One X user penned: "OMG ICONIC!"

"Book her in for every NYE forever!" wrote a second.

A third chimed in: "Fabulous! This will be used for decades to come!"

"Greatest countdown ever," quipped a fourth, while a fifth added: "Legendary."

A final user echoed: "WHAT A WAY TO BRING IN THE NEW YEAR!"

That's for sure.

Happy New Year, folks!
