Halloumi fries have become available at UK McDonald's as of today.

After an exciting announcement came last month that McDonald's would be launching halloumi fries, fast-food fans have been in a state of drooling anticipation.

While mostly known for its golden chicken nuggets, whopping big burgers and salty fries, McDonald's latest menu item has caused quite the stir and the wait is finally over, as it's hitting branches as of today, Wednesday, 27 July.

In celebration of Cyprus, Italy and Spain, the halloumi fries are one of eight new Mediterranean-inspired additions McDonald's has added to its menu this summer.

So, move over mozzarella sticks, there's a new cheese in town.

A regular portion of halloumi fries (four sticks) is set to cost customers £2.49, while a larger 'sharing' portion retails at £6.49 - whether or not you share them is up to you though.

Many McDonald's fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the halloumi fries, taking to Twitter in their impatience.

In response to a post by the fast-food chain asking customers why they deserve a 250,000 point giveaway, one user wrote: "I factored the new McDonalds menu into this weeks food plan for Wednesday, I’m still on track and would love some points to spend alongside buying the halloumi fries."

"Seven people have now tagged me in the McDonalds halloumi fries advert, they know me well," another joked.

Another user who managed to nab some in record speed reviewed the halloumi fries as a 'game changer' and 'unbelievable'.

Other summer special items - already available - include a tiramisu-inspired McFlurry which has caused similar excitement online, as well as two new burgers for the Taste of Italy menu.

The first is the Italian Stack. "Delicious layers of two 100% beef patties, mozzarella, onions, crispy onions, a rich tomato sauce, lettuce and a smooth cheese sauce all served within a freshly toasted tomato-and-basil flavoured bun," the online menu states.

The second, the Crispy Chicken Italiano. McDonald's describes it as a 'delicious crispy chicken fillet topped with a juicy tomato slice, mozzarella, a basil pesto style sauce, red onion and lettuce served up in a soft freshly toasted ciabatta style bun'.

The Taste of Spain and Cyprus items are also set to hit restaurants from today, which include a Spicy Spanish Stack and Chicken Fiesta burger on top of a cheeky Spanish Fruit Punch.

McDonald's UK's Twitter states, 'From hashtags to Hash Browns, it's all here'.

However, now it can update its bio to include not just hashtags and Hash Browns but halloumi fries as well.

Fans of the fast-food chain have been calling for it to introduce halloumi for a while and hands up to McDonald's, it's more than definitely delivered.
