A doctor with coronavirus (COVID-19) is letting his followers stay up to date with the disease's symptoms by posting daily tweets.

Dr. Yale Tung Chen, an emergency physician, became infected while he was working at Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid, Spain.

Dr Chen, 35, is sharing ultrasound scans of his lungs as well as reporting all his symptoms while he is quarantined at home.

Back on 9 March, Dr Chen wrote: "Day 1 after #COVID diagnosis. Sore throat, headache (strong!), Dry cough but not shortness of breath. No lung US abnormalities. Will keep a #POCUS track of my lungs."

The following day he updated his followers, saying: "Day 2 after #COVID diagnosis. Less sore throat, cough & headache (thank God!), still no shortness of breath or pleuritic chest pain. #POCUS update: small bilateral pleural effusion, thickened pleural line & basal b-lines (plaps)."

Dr Chen told NBC that he wanted his experience to be educational, but wasn't expecting the compassionate response he received from social media users.

He explained: "It meant the whole world to me to receive support from people all around the world."

Speaking to MobiHealthNews he added: "We always have so many questions before these epidemics start. Right now, we are all learning. It has been a whole new world to me. I never expected a tweet I would send would have this reaction - to go all over the world. I'm in the position to educate people about this disease."

Outlining his current condition, the father-of-two said: "Nothing traumatic. Just waiting to get past the symptoms. I'm counting the days to get a second test until I can get out of isolation.

"I'm expected to reach that point. The most anxious experience [for] me is not being with my kids and my wife."
